1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

It's going to rain ALL day today... So no major updates. GRRRR

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I love this build. Any chance you can make it so the power starts to fade and then you hit the side wall to get it working again? Lol

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Lov'in it. Keep it coming.

Hey KC,

Unfortunately it rained all of Sunday. I was really excited to get those side walls finished... UGH... Unfortunately, the side walls are directly connected to the console platform so I can't do one without the other...

It supposed to rain a good portion of the week as well... oh well... I can use the break! :)

I would talk to the Manager and see about a bulk order, you could probably buy a case for a hellva deal.

Buy the switches online? You could get as many as you want.

They weren't very receptive to the idea. Amazon has the exact switches. When the time comes I'll go ahead and order the entire lot - approx 420-430... that's a lot of money!

This is the best project ever.

Hi Martin,

Thanks much for the kind words! Sorry I wasn't able to do more this weekend. As it turns out, the two upper side walls will have to be recreated as well. That's very frustrating but its all part of the project - gotta take the ups with the downs... :)

Have to rebuild :(

Hi J,

Thanks! :) There isn't a day that goes when I don't think about your exact question! Every time I pass through the doorway I think about how I might be able to make your suggestion a reality. As it stands right now, the frame wouldn't be strong enough to take a good solid punch. Once the structure was reinforced and bolted to a stationary platform I think we could pull it off. This is only a promotional piece... the cockpit for the full scale MF hasn't even started yet but I'm sure Chris Lee has thought the exact same thing! haven't we all? :)

I was originally going to use simple MDF for the padding but then remembered the high density foam that was/is used for swimming pool floats. If I can find a material similar to that without the smooth coating... I think I found my padding material!

Stand by for more updates! I'll be getting to Han's side and finishing off those two panels... you know... the ones with over uh gazillion switches? :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Howdy G, looking at the smaller panel lights, they was probably more Arcolectric lamps. The size of them is a tad tricky to get a fix on though. They used to make a 7.6mm diameter and a 10mm version but I'm not sure if they make that style now. A look at the movie pics seems to show both the 7.6mm and 10mm in use, the 7.6mm having the straight edge - as in the X-Wing, HiC, etc, and the 10mm with a slanted edge - as in the Snowspeeder and various panels.

If you can measure a part of your panels where a number of the lamps will go and see how 7mm fits compared to 10mm, that will be a good indicator.

I'll have a look for some lamps to compare.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hey W,

I think you're right... I don't think those bulbs are readily available anymore. I've been looking at flat top LEDs and they are very similar in style, cheap and some are even prewired. I just need to find either dim LEDs or create a dimmer switch.

I would love to wire this baby once it's all finished! :) If i haven't said it lately, thanks for all the research you're doing!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Cheers G! Yea go with the LED equivalents just for safety sake. RS seems to be making a 7mm-ish flat top with a very similar retro Arcol look to it - if the size is close it's a good looking part.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

On that greeblie hunt, the two items I was looking into as having some sort of relation with the greeb are here next to each other.

Still no real clue what it is yet, but the white objects look like soap dispensers, lol.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I think the item Han is holding is an actual greeblified item... Anybody?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

That's a good price for the quantity, definately have the bright shine. Thinking about it, if they are bright enough then that will give the illusion of being a mm or two larger.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hotwire,

These are the two switches I have. I'm actually getting rid of these - if you're interested, let me know, we can work out a price

Pico 5540pt Blk On-Off Spst Toggle Sw - Amazon.com

I've switched to these because the neck is longer and screws into the MDF

Pico 5541A 12 Volt 16 Amp Momentary On-Off Toggle Switch 1" Black Handle SPST 25 Per Package : Amazon.com : Automotive

Let me know if you want to work a deal for the switches :)

Thanks for the thought , however plastic wont hold up to the abuse of a simulator

These aren't the best switches either. One of them already broke after just a couple of uses. You could always use them as greeblies... just for show?

That's just it... they can't be too bright. I really don't think any of the little bulbs were that bright. When I originally decided to use the Christmas LEDs most of them were ok. But then I received several strings of really bright LEDs and it just didn't look right...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi, I was looking at your pictures and I noticed the 1970s Volvo Instrument Panel. I believe that's the same panel used to make the 8 panels for the Han Solo Carbonite, can you tell me where I can find that instrument panel, I will really appreciate it.

Manny.

Hi Manny,

You are correct! The Volvo panel is used throughout the SW universe. Not only in the Falcon and on the HIC, but also in the Star Destroyer Bridge Pit. They were painted glossy black.

I think original parts are tough to come by. I've never really looked to be honest. I'm creating the ANH cockpit. But if you're interested in them, I would try contacting DarthChromer. Below is a link to one of his posts. He's a good guy and I'm sure he would be able to answer any questions you have.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

I have a very serious question to ask all of you... Should I or shouldn't I extend the cockpit to reflect the ESB version or continue marching forward with the ANH version? This addition would add another 2 feet or so to the current depth of the cockpit. For those who don't know, the ESB version had additional panels between the panels I've created and the angled side walls allowing for more space for the actors to move about...

So what do you guys think? Should I or shouldn't I? :)
