I just double checked and it seems like I'm full of it today: the window is more like 6' and not 8. Still pretty big, but not THAT big.

2' is a HUGE difference! Can you create an image with 3' window to see what that would look like? I think the window should mirror the base width. It looks like the base and the inner circle of the window are almost the same.

Hi Gang! UPDATES!
Sanded and painted three side panels then... ran out of light...
This panel needs a light sanding and then another coat of paint. I'm thinking this weekend will see these 4 panels finished!

You wouldn't see the concavity as much from the angle in the movie, because the camera's almost right behind the window, but I assure you it's that concave. The preview I posted was based on a model built from production blueprints.
But actually I noticed something in the video you posted that I'd never seen before. The pilot's chairs aren't stationary. Check out 3:41, Luke sits down and pulls his whole chair to his right... weird.

I'm thinking maybe they're on tracks, sliding left and right for easier access (I just rewatched the clip and Han slides his chair towards the center console right before Luke sits down and does it. )
The only reason I wouldn't think office chair or base is that there's a nasty drop right behind the pilot's chairs

I know this is crudely drawn but this is what it looks like to me. It seem that the chair and controls are connected and would spin on some sort of pivot point (red circle) that also allows both to move up and down.
