1:1 Indiana Jones In-Progress

Not too fond of this silly pic, but it will give you a little bit of an idea of what his body looked like around when Raiders was filmed. He was a pretty thin guy. Just a bit toned but not too niticeable.

Looks like Rob already had the "Bag of Sand" picture as it has been become known as...

I did not notice that PH was on top of it. I'm sure he took that pic down off the wall and out of the frame to give him some help in building his mannequin.:lol

Man I was going to say "Just don't tell anybody!" but now its out in te open! :wacko

I think it was RobStyle that first posted it on an earlier thread of mine. And actually, it really has been useful!

I can't believe how much even the background is scrutinised. No detail is too small or escapes the dedicated notice of RPFers.

PHArchivist will need to make sure he vaccuums and mops the floor, straightens the curtains, closes the drawers, tidies the benches and polishes the drawer handles before he takes any more photos.

Great work on the mannequin so far! I really like the base and can only admire your dedication from afar. :cheers

Thanks all... I cemented into the inside of the bust the appropriate-fitting PVC cap for the "neck", so I now have a socket fitting for the bust.

My new hat arrived today! :thumbsup

But it's at the UPS terminal and I can't get it for another three hours! :angry

Cue Tom Petty...

Same here Brad, I find myself looking for excuses to check this thread while grading paperwork to see those oh so sweet updates.:lol

Damn UPS!!! I can't wait to see the progression!

Off to get the hat - back in 30-45 minutes...

I tightened up the padding on the thighs a bit. Got enough duck (duct) tape on there I think he could learn to quack! Anyway, it looks more natural I think. You can barely tell there are quads in there now, but I think that is more how it should look. And he doesn't look like he's got tree trunks ala Ah-nuld!

I received the hat yesterday. I can't honestly say that I am blown away or completely in love with it, because it doesn't completly feel "right". But I believe there are two specific reasons for this...

First, I had the seller do the bash and shaping, and it's not quite what I expected. The brim has an upward turn in the back, where I wanted it to turn down. But this is easily correctable.

Second, I think I may have ordered the incorrect size. I requested (and received) a 60 (7 1/2). Immediately taking it out of the box, it felt small, and I dreaded placing it on the bust, fearing it would not fit. But lo, it fit the Chewie15 IJ2 resin bust just about perfectly.

However... It seems (at least to me) that a trademark characteristic of the Raiders hat is that it appears almost over-sized for Harrison Ford. This, combined with the fact that with how the current hat fits the bust it could afford to be a tad bit bigger, I think I should have gone with a 61 (7 5/8) or 62 (7 3/4).
I'm currently in communication with the seller to see about doing an exchange.

Would you all agree that the hat (for ROTLA) should look just slightly too big?

.

Rob,

I don't agree about Ford's hat being too big at all.
In fact, it's slightly too small for his head. Ford wears a 58 (head circumference of 58cm).
I'm sure Marc from Adventurebilt will be able to confirm this for you. Anything bigger than a 58 is too big though so I definitely wouldn't recommend exchanging it for something even bigger than you've currently got.

Again, solid info Chris - thanks. Perhaps what may be influencing my perceptions is the classic poster image where he has the large grin with the whip in the air. In that image (which of course is an interpretation) it seems pretty big.

I snapped some shots last night of my figure with the bust in place, hat and jacket on. I haven't yet down-loaded them, but will do so tonight. The photos should help in evaluating the fit.

I concur with Chris. See the other Indy hat post where I answered your question as well. Another thing was that the hat was pretty snug on his head, which is what puts some of that unique shape into the brim.

The illusion of the hat being large prompted some vendors in the late-90's to make hats with 5 1/4" - 5 1/2" bashed crowns with 2 3/8 ribbons and most of the time they ended up looking rediculous because the persons face was too small. Just because Ford wore a certain sized crown it doesn't mean it will look right on you or perhaps your mannequin. You have to size it accordingly, which is a pain in the ass, but makes you happy in the end.

Thanks again Jason.

Sorry about the annoying double-post in two threads. The topic applies to both, but it's got to be aggravating for you guys responding. Sorry! :redface

Here are the hat pics...

I think I'm ok on the size, but I'm pretty disappointed in the shape of the brim. But that is easily corrected, so it's all good...
