1:1 Indiana Jones In-Progress

As many may have noted, I've been gearing up to fulfill a dream - a 1:1 Indiana Jones figure.

I've got most of the outfit (though not all canon ex. the shoes), and have recently began building the figure/form. The cornerstone of the project will be Chewie15's resin Indy2 sculpt. I'll let the photos do the talking, but if you have any questions please ask.

I am quite literally making this up as I go, and have never built a full form figure before. God I hope this turns out ok!

I know the shoes are incorrect!

I already love the base!;)

Thank you kind sir! So I gather you recognized it!? ;)

The open front will be closed with a heavy gauge styrene strip/panel,and the plywood will be smeared/covered with plaster or other "stone" like substance, then painted, moss added, etcetera. Can't wait!

Very nice idea!

You really want to freak out the kids who might climb on it, spring-load that center tile and have an air jet blast if somebody steps on it :)

indy doesn't seem too comfortable with u behind him :lol

great work so far, looking forward to in progress pictures

Yeah - funny pose. I had to do it that way because when standing in front, I was too far forward and couldn't compare heights properly.
Wife wanted me t "pucker up"!

Even from the early progress pics I can picture the base as looking phenomenal when completed.
Nice idea creating the mannequin yourself, at least you know you can replicate Ford's exact height and build. Something I need to do also when I get to that point - I'm a long way off yet :rolleyes

Great stuff :thumbsup

Love the base, that's a great idea to have the temple floor!

Looking forward to seeing progress on this one.:thumbsup

Thats a nice Idea, for a 1:1 dummie... The base is really cool... :thumbsup

Thanks guys! I ust hope it doesn't end up looking like a "dummy"!

Hardest thing is trying to get the porportions correct. I think I'm on the right track, but until it is "muscled out" and clothed, I won't know for sure.

How does it look to you in that regard? Torso too long? Legs too short?

BTW the ball and socket of a real femur would go higher than the first plywood cross-sectional. The first and lowest plywood cross-section is the maximum width of his - ahem - butt, which would be lower than where the femur connects to the pelvis (I think).

I love the flagstone base!

So many people have stiff limbed mannequins leaning into a corner. Freestanding figures are so much better and with some thought put into the base like this one, it raises everything another notch.

Looking forward to the fleshed out progress.

Looking good so far Rob.

Don't forget that Ford was pretty skinny build in Raiders. He didn't bulk up until Temple of Doom.
You should be aiming for a 32 inch waist, 38-40 inch chest and approx 5'11" - 6ft tall.

Cheers,

Chris

Chris that's good info. Agreed - he hit the weights and built the pecs to ToD. But I didn't realize he was quite so thin. I may have to re-evaluate. THe waist currently is closer to 34"-36", and the chest is about 42"

Part of the reason I wanted to go somewhat large is that MANY 1:1 figures of various characters look way to thin - almost anorexic.

The figure as is stands right at 6'

Ah, sorry... I call all 1:1 lifesize figures a dummie, because around here its the best way do describe what this thing should do... In the most cases he should show costume/props or clothes, right?!?

I think you want to make a lifesize indy, that would be to complicated for me. Is your method cheaper than buying a 1:1 figure and change the head? That is what I would do, but Ive got no talent for making such brilliant works, so Im always going the easiest way...

Good luck with your "indy". Cant wait to see when its finished... But If I ever make a 1:1 Indy I will get some inspiration of that base... :lol

Hi Rob,

Yes, he's not as big as you would think (especially in Raiders). However, it depends on whether you want to be accurate to Ford's build specifically in Raiders, or whether you want to generalise Indy. He certainly got bigger for Temple of Doom and Last Crusade. I would think that 34 inches is the maximum for his waist though.

Kudos for the work you've done so far though - I look forward to seeing him all costumed up!

No, no... I LIKED the term! ;) And I genuinely hope it doesn't look silly when done! :) I'm just concerned with the porportions...

Another driving factor is that my Wested is a 42".

The top cross-sectional (which forms the circumference at the nipple line) is easily removable and trimable. I have to do that anyway to align it with the sculpted chest. Currently, when I drape the Wested over it, he looks a little like Arnie!

The waist may be harder to adjust, as the cross-sectional is "buried" within the scruture. If I recall correctly, the first (from the bottom) cross-sectional is 39", the second (which would be the hips) is 36", and the third (belt line above the hips - waist?) is 34".
