I'll say it again...

Cast resin replicas. Please, someone set up a run of cast resin replicas so we can take some pressure off the market for originals!

Dan

No need for cast replicas when steel ones are in the works!
both confirmed
Original stud version by wanna wanga (or so he mentioned he might go for)
Threaded hilt-ready version by anakin starkiller

*edit* lol, yeah Verity is on it

Does it matter if cast resin vs actual steel? roygilsing said he was doing to produce them. And Anakin Starkiller literally has a sign up for replicas as we speak.

Good, thanks! No, I'm not so much concerned that replicas have to be resin, just that some sort of cast copies of originals would be a responsible option for those of us that can accept non-originals for various prop replicas. Nothing against wanting to have an original - I certainly understand that niche in collecting - but replicas can take some pressure off the market for vintage originals.

If some fabled Scottish warehouse with crates full of left-over vintage originals is ever found then that's a different story... :)

Yeah. I agree. And modern exacting repros are covered. Roy and Dan are both on it.(y)

I think it would help us to concert our efforts and avoid bid wars if the person(s) bidding on the boots made it known. Otherwise it’s impossible to know if you’re bidding against an rpf’r or a boot aficionado.

I'd like to think that would be the case, but even before the reveal, pockets of folks knew and were unwilling or unable (no judgment) to communicate. So that even caused issues when the population was small.

I may be pessimistic but I feel if that problem occurred at a smaller level it will just be more acute at a larger scale. I do think there is going to be a burst and then things may die down though.

And who knows, maybe teecrooz and I will actually hear back from Hunter and maybe there is a warehouse full of old chunks. Doubtful but maybe.

I agree with both the latter and former statements whole-heartedly. Already, after imploring folks here not to do what was asked---start a bidding war and horde---just a quick perusal of the 'Bay and what was there is now dried up and what is available is marked up. Some folks went and did what others hoped and asked not to!

I always feel a bit guilty knowing there are other collectors out there who genuinely appreciate the original items we want to mangle. I say this as both a Star Wars guy and a camera enthusiast. There should be something left for them. At least there's a net for the community where some have the resources to produce indistinguishable new stock. And who knows? Maybe some boots will make it back on the market with the repro studs for those boot collectors.

God I hope not. The WORST thing we could ever do as a community is remove real vintage parts and replace with replicas.

Imagine being someone who finds a TI calculator online, outbids everyone and pays through the teeth to win the auction, received it and takes it apart only to find out the real bubble strip was removed and replaced with a Parks sabers version.

Or imagine someone taking a flame tube and pulling off the balance pipes to sell, replaces them with aluminum knock-offs they found online (again, lets say Parks emitters) and then re-selling the 'complete' flame tube to re-coup their costs.

If you get a pair of these boots and pull off the real studs PLEASE don't replace them with copies of the same design. If you really want to re-sell the boots, find some real sole studs (whatever is currently available) and use those instead.

I was hoping to attempt this first.
My extraction video details a (relatively) non invasive way of removing them; and I believe a modern wader cleat design could be re-incorporated (with a disclaimer of course)

It is impossible however without a full resole to re-cleat these in the exact same way (with the split trunk rivet style)

It appears that the mystery chunk on the V2 is very worn... to the point where knurlings are smoothed out.
Those who are bidding $400+ on NOS chunks might want to re-think.
(Especially considering the V2 is a more popular build than detonators or Skiff Guard helmets)

Yeah the saber's one is not "mint" it's probably under the "B grade" level.

The mines and helmet appear to be more "mint" like in condition.

I am selling my B grades for $8.75 a piece right now... that includes PayPal fees and the pain in the ass to answer messages, the padded envelope cost, the ink and label paper I print with cost... plus shipping to each person. That's what I calculated per my cost of the pair of boots I bought. The A grades I'm saving for friends and any leftovers will be slightly higher than the B's also... the whole point is to cover the cost of the boots plus the other mentioned costs involved in selling/mailing.

I jumped on this. It’s not that I need a real part, I’m just afraid that a repo might end up costing more.

Thats Very fair Scott, More than fair actually! I appreciate all of you. I love seeing this community super alive!

As I said earlier since I only have an MR and I'm not overly obsessed with the V2 so a replica is fine for me and I've already posted in AnakinStarkillers run.

I do hate paying $20 for a replica when I can get the real thing for $9, but I'd rather the real ones go to people who really want them.

edit: it's actually $25 for the replicas

Is there any planned "run" for these? From the video it seems like some people have some for sale at a reasonable price?

I was going to bid on the pair I saw but didn’t to avoid the bid war so the request from those with first hand knowledge of the boots worked for at least one person. :).
Perhaps we could all agree to let one person bid on the boots if it were promised that each person who was in on the “group buy” received a chunk. Max of 46 participants.
