I have seen Chappie. It is good. Do not believe the hate.

I have ordered the art book. And I'm going to be pissed is Weta starts selling it tomorrow with autographs.

And I didn't catch the brief nudity, either. What did I miss? Was there a chick with her top off at Hippo's place?

I'm sure you all recognized the 'antelope' icon from District 9.

I've taken a look at the guard key, and I've ID'ed something similar, but not exact. Either they used another brand or they fabricated it from scratch.

Oddly, there's no Official Soundtrack on iTunes. Besides all the Hans Zimmer-composed music, there are also at least two Die Antwoord songs: Enter the Ninja ("I'm your butterfly") and Cookie Thumper ("I'm a mean dope fiend").

"Zef" is some kind of Die Antwoord reference.

the Antelope is Die Antwoords logo, notive the D & A on either side of the antelope. Ninja also has the antelope tattoo'd on his left shoulder.

I have seen chappie twice now, AMAZING movie. I would go see it again if i had the time. I plan to see it as many times as i can before it leaves theaters. i hope somebody makes a 3d model of chappie soon

Mmmm, I have to disagree with you there, friend. Die Antwoord may have adopted it, but on page 135 of the D9 art book, among the dozens of other logos, is this exact antelope head. If you can show me that antelope head in, say 2008 or earlier, then we'll talk. When Ninja has a yellow antelope on his vest with a "1" above it, that stands for the First Reaction Battalion from D9. Note the attached pic of Kobus here. On the back of Ninja's other vest ("You were followed!"), you can see this exact same patch, and one of the alternates, a water buffalo.

Thank you. All is forgiven. I'm watching D9 right now, to see if there are any subtle references to it I may have missed in Chappie.

I will note that they both have 'the arm gag' (Look at my arm - look at your arm - we're the same).

As far as Die Antwoord goes, I will note that that odd font they use crops up in Chappie. You can even see the "DA" painted on his RSAP patch.

it looks like they just painted a logitech wireless mouse receiver and added a decal.

Close. There was a porno on the TV where Ninja went to pick up the explosives. Mostly the image was blocked by actors, but there was one noticeable angle that showed a topless woman.

Also, this. Once people get some distance from the Die Antwoord "controversy" plus the sour taste left by Sony not screening the movie for critics, I think there will be a critical reevaluation. It might even become a cult classic; it has that vibe about it.

I'm in the process of making the stickers/decals/data plate that chappie has. the stickers (reject and crush) are almost done and Im having a test batch made. Should be scaled correctly. If there is interest I may do a run of the whole set when I'm done. I'm having trouble with the forehead data plate. In the high res shots, it's covered by the reject sticker. Oddly enough, in different posters the sticker placement changes but I don't have high enough resolution materials to make it out. It all seems to be in Afrikaans but I have no idea what is under the sticker aside from the general layout.

I took some liberties with the endorsement logos. Most of them are just made up or modified versions of real ones. I threw Denel in there because I only had a low res idea of the original logo and it was too complex to make out and denel fits.

Also, IMFDB updated their CHAPPiE page and identifies most of the weapons used, even the crazy looking ones made by Denel and Vektor

That one circular logo with the (Japanese/Chinese/Korean) in it is in the Elysium art book.

Thanks. That really helps with my proportions. It explains why i was having to do so many text transformations.

I also ordered the art book. Mine should be here tomorrow. Lets hope it answers some questions.

@Shark500 Id be interested in some stickers for Chappies head. Hopefully Ill get round to making the head in 3D soon which will help when building it. Ill probably use fiberglass for the main shape and 3d print the detailed bits.

I ordered the book and it arrived yesterday - I must say, its very good for details that would be useful to everyone here. - If you need me to find any stickers in more details, let me know.

My one gripe with the art book (just received it today) is that most of the details shown are for other versions of the scout robot in concept art not the final revision used in the movie so the details are not right. The crush sticker is also blue in the art book. It's still a good book, it's just kind of removed from the final cut. It does show good straight on pictures of the crush and reject stickers so I can get the proportions correct and that's something. There is a data-plate on the ass that I can fill in some information with but until it gets released, I may have to make up some africaans text using context clues.
