Gray Fox MGS1 Build

I mean, my pride says I could probably still flip on a trampoline lol. May have to buy one when I’m done with this thing and do some crafty editing and test that theory lol.
Or...at the least, set of a big green screen and fake the whole thing even more.
I have a 10 x 12 foot green screen, although that still wouldn't be big enough.

Hey guys. Got a little Sunday update for you all. It’s a little pic heavy.

I started off by working on the neck/shoulder pieces. This will be the third time I’ve tried making them, and I’m finally happy with it.

I then moved onto the “arm pit” pieces.

I still have 2 more pieces to make to fill that void. I then moved onto the first of the back plates. I started off with my tried and trued tape and foil template.

I plan on continuing the back plates throughout the week. It may a few days before I update again, as I have some yard work to tend to, but let me know what you guys think. I appreciate any and all feedback!

WOW!!!!!!

Reminds me how back after the game came out in 98.and the toys were released, bought most all and my brother and I would make stop motions with them, Jurassic Park characters and a few others. Good times.

Hey guys. Sorry I didn’t make an update post this past Sunday. I honestly didn’t get a lot done over the last week. I went in with a lot of ambition, but ended up deciding to remake a few things. I did attach Velcro to the rest of the neck and shoulder plates, and they laid down nicely. The spine, as bad as I didn’t want to accept, was too short. The tailbone end would just be too high and the whole thing needed to move upwards. So, I started remaking it roughly 1.5” longer. That also means the back plates I also made will be positioned differently, so those are getting remade as well. They weren’t entirely correct to begin with, and really bothered me. I really wish I could have bought one of these figures when they were affordable. I’m gonna try to have an update next Sunday worth showing.

Please don't be discouraged by this. This is still your (favorite) project, and please remember it's only a matter of time until it's finished (and it will be). Have faith, sir, and above all: enjoy the moment(s), enjoy the crafting. One small step for man...

No apologies needed.

Making stuff reminds me of role-playing games. You start off with something you want and discover fifty gazillion side-quest are required to complete the task.

Remaking a piece because it wasn't right...

Well, you *are* making this for yourself. You want it right. That speaks well of you!

Thank YOU for bringing us along for the experience!!!

You are doing this for fun, I hope it remains fun

You're competing with yourself and the set of skills you've acquired along the years. Those skills are the "tools" you have now (I'm not talking about those physical tools/instruments that you buy in a store). These "tools" will increase with other projects and experiences in trials and errors.
So far, your helmet is a very good example of how the rest of the costume should look like; the helmet is your comparison for anything else you'll build. I'm sure that, with patience and your level of "perfection" (your perfection, not other's) you will succeed into producing a great costume(y)(y)

Thanks everyone for the encouragement, as always. Remaking some of this stuff is only a minor speed bump. I had about an hour and a half to work on it last night.

I got the rest of the backside of the vertebrae on the new spine beveled, and attached the Velcro to it. As you can see, it’s slightly longer than the previous one.

I also started making a couple of the last remaining neck pieces. The neck has been quite a challenge.

I made a change to this spine at the top where it tucks under the helmet. I used a single snap button instead of Velcro, so that the spine can pivot when I turn my head. I’ll attach the other side under the back cover. The source photos show this movement as well.

I still have some heat shaping and tweaking to do, but it’ll have to wait till Sunday. I’ve still got to Flex Seal most of the pieces, and do some beveling on the outside edges. I really want to wait until the full suit is built before making it perfect, in the event I gotta remake more pieces. I’ve been doing some searching for some of the other components I need, such as gloves and boots. I believe I found some gloves that will work with some modifications, and boots on Amazon that look very, VERY similar to the reference photos. I appreciate everyone’s kind words in the last few posts. You guys keep me motivated. I’ll update again hopefully on Sunday. Thanks!

This is definitely looking really good. Can't wait to see how it turns out in the end.
I've not checked in here because........I was actually playing through MGS3, 2 times in a row, and now playing through MGS4. Been a few years and wanted to play again, even though in the past I've easily played them over 50 times.
I'll probably play MGS1 after 4, but, probably shooting myself in the foot going back to the more basic controls and gameplay. I keep hearing rumors of a full on remake....if so, I sure hope they do a good job at it, a game like that really deserves it.

I appreciate it! I’m trying my best to make it as nice as I can. This is my first project using EVA foam, so I’m really learning as I go. MGS 3 and 4 are amazing. I bought the legacy collection last year, and replayed MGS 1 for the first time in over 10 years. It was difficult to go back to the simple controls, haha. Kinda like going from “over the shoulder” Resident Evils then playing the originals with tank controls. I would love to see a remake. “The Twin Snakes” was nice visually, but the soundtrack changes hurt it for me.

Shucks, I pray they make a live-action movie of this game. That'd be something...
MGS1 for PS1 will always be my favorite. I love the storyline and suspense from back then, even in easy mode

I would love to see one made. I’m sure Hollywood will screw it up though. Welcome to Racoon City is a prime example. Id be afraid that they would compress the story too much. I’d almost rather see it as a series. The Last of Us looks promising, from what the trailer shows.

A movie, even if pushed to 3 hours would still have to be super watered down to fit everything. A series could be really cool....but with so much in the Metal Gear world, where do you even start?
I do like the MGS3 feel in the 60s, things not as complex as the later games. But not sure that would transition to a show as well.
