1/6 ehh?
Well I now have created all the small greebles, the cockpit (ANH full-set) the R2 Strip , the back-end, wing-roots and the F-4 engines, all in the computer.
The Body too, is all 3D-CAD/CAM , the mesh/shape of the fuselage has "pedigree" ( if you catch my meaning)
The beauty of having it virtually, in the computer is that you can make it any scale you want...if your willing to spend the money to bring it into the analog world.
Having said that .. .when I first started this big-X back in 2008 ( had to put it on hold, -sorry).
Printing the body was out of the question ... -too big, -too expensive. the best alternative was to have it CNC milled ( and some traditional fabrication)
Since that time, things have been moving so rapidly with..wait for it ...rapid -prototyping. :$ -mainly in the area of stereolithograpy (aka 3d-Printing)
It is now more economic for me to get some of the large components of the fuselage printed ( even 2 yeas ago that was not a viable option.
This is nice for me as I can keep the panel lines intact when printed. In the cace of CNC milling it works out best - to scribe the panel lines by had after it has been milled. regarding the panel lines the will be the same with and dept as the 1/24 scale (aprox: .006 " if memory serves)
It works out bets to keep the panel lines thin; otherwise the miniature would start to look like a big toy.
When I started this 1/12 X-Wing it was just going to b a one of...for me.. got a lot of pressure from peers her and I decided to do a limited run.
Watson if you want a 1/6... X-wing PM me...we can talk. (wont work on it until after I finish this one)
