1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Brilliant work so far!!! I think I might start my own Millennium Falcon control console in the New Year. I've heard that the Haynes Workshop Manual for this particular vessel has details on the different controls, and even instructions for flying the old girl.
Could you possibly tell me how wide the overall console is, and how long it is (with the central part included)? And lastly would you be able to tell me the width of the central control panel?

Kind regards, The14thDr

Hi The14thDr,

Thanks so much! I'm pretty sure there is a free SketchUp model of the console somewhere that was originally done by Starkiller - he has created the entire MF in 3D - AMAZING! That's where we get all out models/dimensions from. Here is a link to one of his threads. Drop him a PM. I'm pretty sure he knows where it might be.

Also, take/post pics of your build! I would really enjoy seeing your progress! :)

Merry Christmas to you and yours! :)

In the spirit of the season, here are some Holiday Special Falcon references for the next project :lol.

I remember watching this when I was a kid thinking to myself "... something is wrong... this doesn't look anything like what I saw at the movies..."

But at least they have a front window... ;)

That's more like the "Cheech and Chong" version of the Falcon ...with a little bit of "Dumb and Dumber" and "Red Green" mixed in.

LOL! I can just imagine Cheech and Chong behind the controls...

That is a VERY interesting shot! First, I would give ANYTHING to see that in person. Second, the background "hanger" the MF is sitting appears to be a backdrop? Am I wrong? Is anybody else seeing the same thing I am?

Stalking your progress Greg. :p

Will discuss lighting this evening. Looks like we'll need to order more frosted polycarbonate.

I dont mind the stalking... just stop leaving face prints against the windows!

Def need more poly! I'm very interested in what your reaction will be when you see the side light bars... not much room to work with! ;) LED strips?

Also this hi-res image from the front of the magazine with CG falcon and a brief write up about the images: (both linked in the article above but there you go). Am sure they're being talked about elsewhere but can get a little glimpse of the cockpit in that cover

It does look like a backdrop! But as we know ILM have had their way with the image it could just be made to look that way...

Not sure if this will help or not, but here you go:

A fairly decent diagram of the cockpit controls, taken from the Millennium Falcon Owner's Workshop Manual I believe.

EDIT: If you look on the last image from the book on Amazon UK, you can see the same diagram I posted above, but with labels:

Hope this helps. Kind regards, The14thDr

I read that the photo of Iger was taken at Fortune in New York, and ILM put him infront of the set piece later. Can't remember where, though.

That definitely is a wrap-around cyc (cyclorama, curved backdrop). A nice one, too. I love that you can see masking up at the top, too, covering truss so they don't get any weird, unexpected light reflections.

Sofaking, can you tell me how you add these photos so that they are full size in the thread? All I can ever seem to upload is thumbnails.

Sorry, not trying to derail thread.

No reason to apologize... :) What site are you using for photos?

Excellent... It almost looks real! Man... I can't wait for this movie! lol

Do you have to resize your pics? Or does the RPF do it for you? What is the maximum pixel size? Sorry for asking all these questions in your thread, I promise I will lay off.

The shelf and new light bars look fantastic, great bit of carpentry. Imagine flicking on the light switch, when that time comes.
