Witchblade

Kia ora all,
Well I went out on a limb this year for our local conventions and made myself a Michael Turner style set of Witchblade armour (mainly inspired by WB/TR cover art). Unfortunately as I was still experimenting with the techniques right up until oh... the day before... I didn't quite get it all done. However the bulk of it is there, it just needs reinforcing and made into a few connected units to be complete.

I don't have any self shots from my own camera but I may be able to do so in the next week so I can show before and after photos of it.

It is all made from silicone and craft foam. The next step is to fill the backs of the pieces with the silicone then assemble the parts of a form and connect them all with more silicone. There will be reinforcing with elastic and under the arms with some lycra to allow the parts to be worn easily.

Next project is rigid armour for Dawn and Mara Jade (greaves for both and pauldrons etc for dawn).

That is looking great.:thumbsup
One of the best parts of my job during my 6 years with Top Cow was traveling to all the comic conventions and running our booth, as such the costume folks for our characters would always stop by for pictures and such so I have seen many attempts at a good WB outfit, and only ever seen one that I would actually call great. So far yours looks like it has the potential to have that one beat.
When you are done, if you want, we could see about maybe getting a picture put in the back of the comic. We published pictures like that before over the years, and even thought I left the company this year, all my friends still work there so I still have a little pull.:love

*grin* Sounds good :D

Yeah, I'm annoyed I didn't get it as ready as I wanted in time but it was enough for me to really want to get it finished! And enough to see that all the mess will be worthwhile ;) Of course now I have the time to do the upgrading over a longish period so there won't be any shortcuts ;)

Thanks :) I'm really having a great time mucking about with this stuff, it reminds me a bit of being a kid and really just getting in amongst the clay and the paper and random bits. It's a nice change from my historical costuming, which I also love, just to use different parts of my brain. And to make something I like now but hope to be proud of when finished :)

As I said I would I have remade this costume:
Photos just to see the costume (very hard to get good photos of me)

Thanks :) I really do wish I had the funds to be able to do this properly but well needs must and this was all kinds of goopy messy fun anyway ;)

Thanks :) I think I made that before I got the good photos off my camera ;)

Nah "setting for low light conditions dammit" rather than focus ;)

Not tall ? Wow, I thought you´d be at last 1.80m or somesuch, taller than I am. I can´t see that chin-problem either. Might have to do something with me eyes :$

The craft foam doesn´t look like it at all ! Now the only thing missing in the pics is an action pose and a dramatic background.:thumbsup

Michael

Thanks :) Yeah apparently I look taller in photos. Sigh, I need someone to take some photos when I'm not at the convention ;) I am the judge for the cosplay contest so I tend to be thinking too much about that ;) Must hunt out a photographer.
