Ghostbusters Reboot Proton Pack! - WIP

After seeing the new, widely frowned upon (I really enjoyed it, didn't expect much), Ghostbusters Reboot and absolutely loving it, I decided I would build the new pack! So, I got to modelling it in Autodesk Fusion 360

Here it sat at around 7 hours of modelling work, using online references from the Facebook 'Reboot Pack builders' Group, if you're interested in building one of these yourself their community and resources are priceless!

Then I took a couple files from Spongeface on thingiverse (mostly for referential purposes), in order to build up an accurate model of what I (hope) my pack will end up looking like, before adding a couple of the bits and bobs that light up the Hero Packs for the movie.

Here's the motherboard being cut flat on my work's waterjet (it will be bent later). I am using 5052 aluminum for all cuts due to most parts needing to be bent in one way or another.

Later, the motherboard was bent using a break and 6 evenly spaced 15 degree bends to simulate the 'pipe bend' that's on the movie pack.

A couple of cuts later I'm at here on the pack, im about 3 days into making it, ill keep this thread updated as I progress. if you have any tips or ideas for the pack, or any questions or requests for the resources/strategies im using to make my pack, please ask! Lewis Tully's Build over on gbfans.com is invaluable as a resource for part locations, as well as found parts!

Some more files cut and folded, as well as the first found part and a printed upper display!

The Reboot pack makes use of a couple 'Hammond Project boxes' you can find these on amazon, on the hammond website, or at various retailers around you, Fry's Electronics has a few of them in stock for me. the exact models are: 1590N1 (3 of them), 1550A, 1550Q. for more information about these parts, http://www.gbfans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=41762

Following this! Looks cool so far. I want to build my own, just trying to track down parts for it online.
Thanks and Good Luck! A lot of the boxes on it are 'Hammond Project Boxes', specific boxes are listed on Tully's thread I linked, the rest are assorted plumbing fixtures and miscellaneous things.

I am not a fan of the reboot, but I don't mind the packs at all!! I can't wait to see where you take this. Your modeling skills are amazing!

I liked the reboot. I've been getting references for a ghost chipper. The add ons (chipper, proton punch glove, grenades, and especially Holzman's pistols) are going to be very cool to make for a lot of people.

After I commented that, a friend sent me tons of photos of a costume display that was up (at SDCC I'm guessing). Lots of great up close shots of the pistols, chipper and proton pack. No glove though. That was pretty cool too

Are your referencing the gloves the ladies wear in the movie? If so they are called, Fourth Element 3mm Neoprene Gloves. The cuffs are made separately. There is a templet out there that can help.

Do you have a link to the "Reboot Pack builders" group? Couldn't find it after doing a fb search.

Oh wow that's awesome! Is there any chance that you can send those photos? I'm trying to make some props as well, and reference photos would be fantastic.

Saw the movie this weekend and don;t get the hate. I thought it was pretty great. MILES ahead of GB2. Not quite the level of the original, of course, but still, MUCH better than the trailers, or what I expected based on belly-acing here. Here's the rub. My wife wants to do a "cheap" cosplay of the costume. ANyone know of a cheap low-fi version of the proton pack? There seems to be a toy, but it looks very small.

The toy is SUPER small. I've only seen it once at a store. There will be an inflatable one for Halloween... if you're ok with that. I'm not, lol.

Ive seen some builds coming out that use cable-tray for the motherboard (you can find it on amazon for pretty cheap), you can use an off-the-shelf toolbox of a similar shape/size for the bottom 'Cryogen' part, the center is primarily made out of something like this and quite a few bits and bobs are general hardware store items you can find pretty much anywhere.

As far as 'movie accurate' packs for the reboot go, a lot of it is custom-made metal parts and 3d printed items. Im lucky enough to have access to a variety of machines that make creating an accurate pack doable (waterjets, lasercutters, and 3dprinters mostly).

Thanks! I saw that some folks use cable tray, but I have unsuccessful finding something suitable on Amazon to the Bay. It seems to be avaliable in the UK, though.
