Haystack Hair's MPC Falcon Upgrade Kit Thread

This is looking good. I will point out about your radar dish..Ive built alot of resin kits ,and know from experience that when paint hits those bubbles that have a really thin surface, it will open those bubbles up, ruining the part and the paint job. If they deep inside, theyre fine, but like I said, the super thin surface ones will open up.

Oh dear....hm....the thickness of the walls are around 0.25 to 0.30 from what I can surmise....then bubbles underneath that. What sort of paint? Spray can or airbrush??

Thanks for the heads up though, I will make sure that I get my technique down to a tee before I allow any radars to be sold :thumbsup

If I recall it was the spray primer than did it. This was on air pockets that were paper thin.

Hmm...not worth taking a risk on though. I need to be offering the highest quality parts to all of you......I know I'd be pretty bummed if I had a poor casting from an expensive kit

Today I finished the 8 maintenance pits for the mandibles, seeing as the standard MPC ones won't fit once the sidewalls are done. I didn't want to have to make them but needs must I guess....
Tomorrow I will make the 6 engine deck fans and then mould all of these parts, that will be the final set of moulds for this kit and I can start casting as soon as more resin is delivered. Neato.

Parts are laid out in the mandible layout, top sides on the inside, underside parts on the outside. You'll see what I mean anyway...

I aimed to use as many accurate pieces as possible but the scaling is an issue. I used a 1/144 Panzer G and a 1/100 Matilda MkII. I tried to get the gist of the five footer anyway

Today I completed the engine deck fans, which I will mould tomorrow along with the maintenance wells. I'm proud of how detailed they are but I hope that they mould okay.....I've avoided undercuts but you never know

I think the silicone is most likely to get caught underneath the gaps between the I-16 cowlings and the Jagpanther wheels....ah well! Only one way to find out

The MPC upgrade kit will be released during mid-to-late February. The improved photo-etch has been designed and I'm in the process of moulding the final parts. I also commissioned my highly talented friend Jem to draw the box art and instructions. It's in the works! Just hold out a little longer

It's not finished yet but we're all working our socks off!! STAY TUNED

All these artistic people ......I'm going into creative overload!!!

Great job mate

J

Credit goes to Jem for sure, he's incredibly talented and a huge SW fan as well.

Collaborating with him was a good move, hopefully he will become a regular box and instruction artist with the soon-to-be-established Haystack Hair Fine Scale Model Kits !

I think what impresses me most is the consistent speed and pace you've demonstrated. It's one thing to start off with enthusiasm. It's professionalism to carry that attitude all the way to the end. Bravo.

Well well well looks like I may well have completed 7 kits this afternoon hehe
Jem and I are still working on the box art and instruction manual. February release is looking promising :cool

The boxing and packaging is a little lacklustre at the moment but I have some plans in the works for that hehe
