Texture grip help

Anyone got a good solution for making texture grips???

I need something I can use on my Noble Batman Begins grapple gun seen here:

I tried using a texture spray that's used for making fake stone stuff. I was hoping it would work once covered with a paint layer and sealed but it's not. Little pices are rubbing off each time it's handled.

Someone suggested bedliner spray can for trucks. Gonna give that a try.

The "chunks" in the granite type fake stone spray are way to big. I use Rustoleum textured spray over the primer & under the layers of top coat. I only used a light coat on my Jawa Blaster, but you can add several to really build it up.
