I hope to have it finished this weekend.
Just some sandpaper and a little elbow grease.
Not very long, about 3-4 minutes the first time. Then I scrubbed the splotchy areas with a tooth brush, and soaked one last time for about 1 minute.

Ahh! I have mixed feelings. I would love to remove the color and patina..but otherwise I would like to keep the historic aspect....Ahhh!Just some sandpaper and a little elbow grease.

I actually wiped mine down to stop all of the loose soot from coming off every time I was handling it...

I gave the "face" a real good cleaning before I made my run of BP's, so I needed to darken it up again.
A bit on the crunchy side... definitely not smoores material! :lol

What was the burning the emitter for? Does it damage the emitter?

The emitter that Roman has is an authentic vintage part that comes from the combustion chamber of WWII Rolls Royce jet engine - a little thing like roasting it over a BBQ won't hurt it in the slightest
As you can imagine, when these parts come off the engine there's a lot of carbon on them. I'm assuming that Roman's trying to add a bit more "character" to his by trying to add more carbon on his emitter.
The emitter that Roman has is an authentic vintage part that comes from the combustion chamber of WWII Rolls Royce jet engine - a little thing like roasting it over a BBQ won't hurt it in the slightest

So here's the progress I made today:
First I added some threads to my old motorola transistors with JB Weld:
Then I attached sink knob to gear via a simple nut/bolt/washer assembly
Next, I'll be using a hollow clamp spacer to attach the gear to grenade
Then I attached my cone adapter (not pictured, oops!) to the windvane using a 3/8-16 bolt & nut.
And that's it for today!!!
Tomorrow the JB Weld will be rock solid on the new transistor threads,
and I'll trim down my exactra bubbles!!!

Because I cropped the pictures on my kids' computer... which is connected to a 50" TV.
So on that screen, they looked HUGE!!! :lol :lol
