Anyone have any info on the hat that was used in First Contact - ZEFRAM COCHRANE hat.

Thanks

At one time, I had the hat bands identified, they're just two different cowboy hatbands that used to be available on eBay. They might still be available, but I never found the right hat so I eventually lost interest.

The hat itself still puzzles me- I thought for awhile it might be just a fitted baseball cap, but it wasn't put together right, then I switched my thinking to maybe some kind of bicycle cap with a bill, but I never found one that looked right.

Good luck, It would be pretty cool to see this finally nailed! :):thumbsup

Thanks. I think its a paperboy/Newsboy hat. I did a quick google search and find one in the same style.

Whats was the brand?

Here are some in the style

Good shot of the hatbands. The top one is dark brown leather, the bottom black. :)

I got to thinking.. If Cochrane was put or in the Third world war (In the movie) then he would have stuff from that time. So I did a quick google search and find that a few hats matches his hat. Just do a search for Military hat and look in the image section on google.

Yeno...
the more I look at this particular pic, the more I think the hat is made from either a really distressed/grunged up lightweight leather or suede material... Just something about the look of it and the single stitching on the top and (what looks like) the lack of any stitching on the rim above the brow... :confused

To me, it just has that "oily, worn look" you only get with cowhide...

I think the hat is leather if I remeber correctly. His entire costume is at the Star Trek Experience in Vegas. If that is the real costume. It definitely has a short bill on the back. Probably no reason why the costume department couldn't have made it from scratch.

Yeah I was thinking that it could have been made by the studio.

Has anyone had a chance to re-find the hatbands? I found both of them on eBay once, but that was 10 (!?!?!) years ago. :confused

I was in Las Vegas over the weekend and paid a visit to the Star Trek Experience. The hat definitely has a leather-like grain (if it's the actual hat worn by James Cromwell in the film--I have my doubts about the items in the exhibit being screen-used), but the grain is more prevalent than most regular cowhides; horsehide, perhaps? And, unlike most baseball caps which have six seams radiating out from the top, it has only four seams at 90° angles. I'm inclined to agree it was probably made by the costume department at Paramount rather than a modified found object.
