You may think they're Buck Rogers pistols...

Here's a Eastern Alliance Pistol that I made a couple of years ago...

From scratch? That's pretty darned nice. I've noticed a difference in the front area under the barrel on several different versions of this particular gun. I'm fairly certain that the ones I have are recast off the old MARCO versions... which may or may not have been screen accurate.

Back on topic... Gordon, were both of the Buck Rogers blasters that you posted above seen in BSG?
[/b]

I am 99% certain. They would have been in one of the two Terra episodes or Greetings From Earth. I have to go back and check to be 100% certain.

Cool stuff, Gordon.

To be picky, (who, ME? ;) ), these would be BG blasters that appeared on BR, not the other way around. BG came first, was cancelled, then BR. ;)

Very interesting fact , then the wedge shaped pistol above was a background gun for BSG and then a main prop gun in BR.

The Buck Rogers movie was in production in 1978. The gun was made for the movie. When production on the movie wrapped, the gun and the full sized mock up of the shuttle were repainted and used in Battlestar Galactica. The "Greatings from Earth" episode aired Feb 25,1979. The Buck Rogers movie came out March 30,1979.

Didn't the shows overlap for a bit? I do remember always picking out the props that crossed over from show to show.

A lot of the Galactica props and costumes turned up in Buck Rogers. I think the Gemini freighter crashed into the space station in the Space Vampire episode. I know Troy and Dillon used Buck Rogers pistols in one episode of Galactica 1980.

I once saw a photo of the clear emitter on the BR guns, and you could see where they had drilled holes up from the base in the emitter so it would show the light better. I think it was three holes, but it has been many years since I have seen the photo.

The emitter that you saw flash when fired in the series was actually a clear acrylic shower/bathtub faucet handle.

That bottom one looks more like a cut up version of the old tooth paste kit. The "fin" isn't quite as drastic though.

I know---necro-thread, but for the sake of accurate info, I'm reviving it.
That pistol on the bottom is not a screen used laser. It's one of Richard Coyle's electronic props. Coyle is the one who added that red square button that many other kit makers and garage bashers started adding to their kits.

The emitter WAS a faucet handle, and they can still be found at Home Depot and Lowe's. The original was a Price Pfister. Danco makes the replacement, and two are needed for the build. Also, make sure to get the large handles--they come in two sizes. They also need to be turned on a lather to remove the handle flange. An aircraft strobe light was used to make the muzzle flash.

Here is the faucet handle:

Yep... In post #18 we already covered the fact that the red button denoted a Coyle replica. Also, there was/is another post here discussing the original plastic faucet knob with links to, at the time, original knobs and the replacement ones as well. Thanks for updating the links. I will add that the newer plastic knobs don't lathe as easy as the originals. I broke three before getting the technique down, so take it slow and watch for flying shards. ;)

Re: You may think they're Buck Rogers pistols...

Yep-'that's what I get for Google searching and not reading entire threads...lol.

The ones at Home Depot are acrylic and a little easier to work with.
Funny...I had this same conversation with someone at Galacticon 3 a few weeks ago.
was that you?
We were talking about melted acrylic and those flying plastic shards.
