You knew this was coming - Star Wars Pixar Film in the Works

I think you're correct. Star Wars will be modeled after Marvel.

And yet I would say that Disney's handling of Marvel exactly proves my point...
Everyone wants to remember successful films, there are just as many forgettable, mediocre, and flat out bad ones.
Agents of Shield has lost half it's viewers since it's premier, and a continual ratings slide with the exception of the Thor tie in.

Not everything Marvel has been great... or even good... or even watchable.

And what happens when they start playing it safe? Blade and Punisher reboots that are PG-13 sound okay?
How about a kid friendly Ghost Rider reboot?

Would you go see them?

I wouldn't.

Well if you wouldn't go see them why are you Bothering to read this thread.

Ben

well, the topic was Star Wars... which I would go see... And I was referencing Disney's handling of Marvel to demonstrate how it could go wrong

Taking the good with the bad, I'd STILL say Disney is doing a pretty good job with the movies they've been pumping out. Especially with the Marvel stuff.

You forgot the sweeps week Star Wars mini-series TV Event, and Jedi Ghost Hunters on SyFy, the Star Wars sit-com Robes

be careful what you wish for
with too many irons in the fire, the quality will inevitably go down...

Rarity helps ensure quality. People treat a property with more reverence when they know it's a short list of people who get to contribute.
And even then, it's no guarantee. (See the Prequels)

because there just aren't that many great writers in TV or Movies, or people that even care about continuity, or directors that will want to put their own interpretation on the universe.

...and SW promo toys will likely be at McDonald's seeing as they do the Disney and Pixar stuff already....

See... it's already happening.

It's bound to happen no matter what, I don't recall how much Disney paid for Star Wars but I'm sure it was a pretty penny and there's no reason why they wouldn't do everything in their power to make sure they get their money's (and then some) out of their purchase. They certainly didn't purchase Star Wars because Eiger is a huge Star Wars fan and wants to own the franchise like a piece of fine art, they bought it so that they can, hopefully, make tons of money off of it and they're going to do that by merchandising the hell out of it and increasing its media presence so that kids will want to go out and buy the merchandise. Besides, it's not like this hasn't happened already and has been happening since the resurgence of the popularity of Star Wars. Lucas merchandised the hell out of Star Wars during the 80s and then after the PT came out Lucas once again merchandised the hell out of Star Wars so what's different with Disney owning the franchise now and planning on, once again, merchandising the hell out of it?

And the whole rarity thing doesn't even fit in with Star Wars in it's original form. When Star Wars first came out it was EVERYWHERE.

by rarity, I meant the number of actual stories told in the universe. Not the merchandising.

That was sort of the case when it first came out but you still had the Holiday Special, the Muppet Show appearance, the Droids & Ewok cartoons, & the old Marvel comic book series so only somewhat rare. But after the Thrawn trilogy came out the whole EU exploded and you now have tons of books, several comic book titles, any number of video games, and two Clone Wars TV shows, and a 3rd animated series on the way so anything but rare now.

That Riceball, is exactly my point.

With the EU, they've run all over the place, and while there are some gems out there, there is a lot of crap. Prince Xizor anyone? Jaxon the Space Rabbit?
I read Shadows of the Empire... and it was all wrong... from the way 3PO called Han "Master Solo".... No. It was always "Captain Solo", "Master Luke", and "Mistress Leia". Details matter.

At least, with the EU, it didn't have to be considered canon. You could embrace it or ignore it, because it wasn't on film.

But now, with a new trilogy, and umpteen character films, and cgi films and a tv series, there is no way they'll be able to keep the universe consistent. It's an open playground.

And the mad cash grab mentality means quality is going to become a secondary consideration...

I'd rather have one stellar new trilogy, then 20 mediocre films.

Well then I'd wait until it all starts to come out before you judge it so harshly.

Count your lucky starts it came well after the fact then. When GL read it, he said he loved it and we'd have gotten that for an E6 instead of Jedi if he had it back then.

Hasbro's a division of something else IIRC. Could be the price is too high or that they have no interest in making the other toys that aren't Marvel/Disney etc.

Besides...they already get a mint off the licensing deal. I was stunned when i went to the toy store for the first time in a few years and saw 3 3/4" figs were 10 bucks a pop. You know about 5-6 of that is pure licensing fee to LFL.

Toy stores, comic shops, and other specialty stores are always more expensive than, say, Walmart. But they also usually have more of a selection. But you're right, LFL makes out like a bandit from these things.
