Yet another electronics question updated 9/4/8

New question:
Okay, so if I'm using an illuminated rocker switch like this one:

How do I wire it into the circuit? I know it has 3 connector thingies but I'm not sure which ones to use and the one I have didn't come with any diagram or anything. My google-fu is very bad this morning and I couldn't find anything. :(

hard to say if you dont know the part number.

3 pins (are you sure its an led)
the should be numbers on them?

what do you want when switched on it should light up?

so it should be:
Voltage on 1 and 3.

and LED´s on 2 and 3.

but it a guess without knowing the right switch it can be hard to tell

Lets use this switch:

Radio Shack.com

I know for normal switch you just hook the switch into the circuit between the power source and LEDs. But with an illuminated switch, the 3rd connector confuses me a little.

its necessary with the 3rd pin you can gar ant that the LED runs for its own

this switch should be ok the other looked like for 230V
the pins that i posted should work

So, wire the positive to one pin, negative to one pin, and leave the 3rd pin empty? I thought the 3rd pin was specifically for the LED.

right the 3rd is for the led

not the best but it shows how it works
http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/100558.pdf

on is the pin for both
if you close the switch in this example 2 is connected with 1 and 3
connect 3 with the the right resistor for the led in the switch
and 1 with the circuit which should be switched on

i hope now its clearer
