Real kit part, even the diamonds.

Tan colored means probably military; Tamiya or Bandai or Nichimo. And there's something so familiar about it...

I was browsing Pinterest and came across this photo of a studio X-Wing with what looks like Harrier engine nozzle parts on the droid strip which I don't think I've seen before, and might be of interest here. (Of course, this is where I'm told you've all seen it before.)

Yes. You are correct. They are Harrier parts and yes we've seen it before lol.

This is the large scale Red 3 ship that started as an unofficial project before Lucas approved it because he wanted a larger scale ship to film during ROTJ. Unfortunately the scenes weren't included into the theatrical release of ROTJ.

I think you might be on to something there.
Third picture is one of the 1/24 ones. I took the second picture of the big one in 2006. I see a lot more matches in detail and geometry with the big one.

The shot Lorne said it was meant for was when Luke was flying away from Tatooine. He said the camera was going to push in real close to the cockpit area. If it was used for this other shot he obviously didn't know/remember.

Large X-Wing?

Comparing some of the details of this to the static photos of the model I have I'm all but convinced this IS the large Red 3 model. Great spotting.

It certainly isn't the same as the 1/24 scale model posted.
