X-WING & TIE PILOT HELMET progress pics

You could always pm me if you want to discuss it.

Working on it. I don't think it was a needle case. I think stamp/ink kit might be the key.

.

If you don't find the exact case one could be easily made from scratch.

These are looking really good by the way Gino.

The tubes are the same in both shape and length.
They look thinner because the TIE earcap cutouts squish them.
The very back of the faceplate tubes fits into the earcap cutouts and easily pinches them to fit inside. The back of the faceplate tubes are VERY flexible.

.

I don't think this is the case at all.

If you look at photos of the original "background" Tie helmet, you will see that the right tube (the tube that looks the longest and thinnest) doesnt seem to have any kind of pressure/stress on the bottom of it from the ear section at all.
The left tube is not even gripped by the ear section.

I want to see a Tie helmet replica with a face that matches the original and that includes the long slim tubes. I want to see THIS helmet match the original better, thats why i'm discussing it with you. I'm not nit-picking, i'm trying to help you make it even better.

I've used a photo from star wars helmets below (jez, if you want me to remove it just say), as i can't seem to find my CD at the moment.
This is a photo that shows what i mean about the tubes. If as you say is just an assembly thing, can you assemble yours so your tubes look the same.

The tubes on the ANH face that was molded were cut very short, so they would have to be made longer for a start. Maybe you have made them longer? if so, can you have more of them showing?

At the end of the day, the Tie helmets use a hero face and no hero face has been molded as far as i know. So a replica hero face will never be perfect IMO, but as you have a stunt mold there you can make duplicates of and you seem to have a lot of time to work on these things, i am hoping you can continue to improve the replica hero face.

Keith.

edited as i mixed up the left tube from the right tube.

Thats a very short reply.

I get the feeling you don't want to talk about anything and you think i'm just nit-picking, even after all the praise i've given (as i do in most of your threads).

You have got me wrong trust me.

Nevermind.

Keith.

Any finished pics of the X-wing helmet? Are you kitting it out?

It is finished with the exception of the paint job and visor tinting.
Definitely no kits. If I did, anything would be recast protected. Especially these.

Gino, As you move forward with these i'd be REALLY interested in seeing you create and apply your decals. Do you make the artwork by hand, and then scale them? I've had SO much trouble getting my decals to lay perfectly with the contours....

Did you say this was a "Show Off" thread or a possible interest thread? Either way, I'll be following this one...

I agree with Keith. The whole point of displaying any costume build or replica is to show off your accomplishments and share your experiences with the community. However, no replica is always exact or accurate, as Keith has pointed out. He respectfully shared his opinion on how you could improve upon your helmet, so that it can be closer to perfection. Instead, you dismissed his rather thorough advice with a cheap quip, which I find discourteous.

I understand if you may disagree, nobody always sees eye to eye, but it would be polite to give voice to why you disagree with what he said. This is why we are all here, to share opinions and viewpoints. So give a little more substance to your acknowledgement.

just to show more prove Gino´s right, here is another pic showing the tear drop detail on the screenused Propstore helmet from a different view...

IMHO you nailed the look of the original Tie helmet and i know how hard it is to do so with a very complex helmet like the Tie´s or At-At helmets.
I tried my luck with a Tie helmet too after building half a dozen Stormtrooper helmets and it´s defintaly more difficult to get them right.

These look great. I can't wait to see them all finished up. Whoever gets one of these is going to be a lucky bugger.

Thanks for the info and the theory of the earcaps. Why are the tube different between the original and your replica? Are there different ear versions bending them differently? And are the original earcaps glued to make them not jump off?

I noticed that on this original helmet the tube looks thin (imo), still the earcap is not even sitting on it, but sits lose on/behind it. It seems to have the same curve/size as the tube, at least not smaller.

On the replica I built up, the earcaps are slightly closer to the fatter part of the tubes (more towards the front of the face).
On this particular replica of mine, the way it was assembled was with there being about an inch of tube left on the face mask that is hidden under the ear.
On that particular screen used helmet you posted pics of, the back of the tube on that one side doesn't even extend underneath the earcap. You can see that in the pic of the inside.
How much the tubes extend underneath the earcap varies from build to build.

These look great, Gino! I keep coming back to check them out.
I have a question.
On the Hero and Stunt versions of Stormtrooper, Tie, AT-AT, from ANH, ESB, ROTJ, there's a ''kink'' on the lower portion of the wearer's right tube that isn't present on yours, I'm wondering was this intentional?

I figured that maybe since I'm not seeing it on your TIE that maybe the earpiece was covering it, so I searched pics of your Stormtrooper helmets, and the ''kink'' is absent from those as well.
So did you intentionally remove the ''kink'' on your moulds as a ''tell''?
Again, great job, Gino!
