X-wing flight suit run by Loanstar UPDATE 07/2009

Re: x-wing flight suit run by Loanstar

Dear superjedi / Eric
Sorry but i don´t understood what you meant, (sometimes my English strikes) can you plz make me a draw/thumbsketch of it?

Loanstar,
In your first picture on page 1, it looked like the bottom of that pocket was straight with no angle. Maybe it was the contrast, or maybe it was my old eyes. :lol
In your new picture, it looks just right!!

Looking pretty good so far! Color looks closer in new pic, although it could still be a little more pale.

It also looks like the material you're using is thicker and/or more stiff than the original. Look at the difference in how they drape on their mannequins.

Re: x-wing flight suit run by Loanstar

I think everyone should take a look at page 179 in the Star Wars Magic of Myth book (the one with 3po on the cover).
I've always wondered if the actual flight suits were found items. I think they very well could be. In fact, the basis for x-wing pilot was completely copied from whatever type of pilot you see in that pic. Helmet and all.
BTW, I don't believe that the helmet was APH6 B, unless there is a version of it out there with only a center visor slider.
Can someone do a decent scan of this image and post it on this thread?

Re: x-wing flight suit run by Loanstar

Yeah the outside photo is much better in color:thumbsup

The link I posted shows the shoulder pocket pattern the way it should be. Your's is just a rectangle. Sounds like you have noted all of the concerns posted, can't wait to see the updated suite.

Cheers,
Jeff

Re: x-wing flight suit run by Loanstar

Definitely loving this project. I may be in for one, depending on price and availability. Cannot wait to see how it progresses.

Re: x-wing flight suit run by Loanstar

OK I see the what you mean. It's close but I believe the pocket needs to be a tad smaller and shorter by about 1.5 inches. That's just what I see and I hope others will look at it closely and give there input. I would so love to have an accurate flight suite so I can wait for the details to get worked out.

Cheers,
Jeff

Re: x-wing flight suit run by Loanstar

Looks nice! How much? Also, have you considered doing the flack vest as well?

Re: x-wing flight suit run by Loanstar

Quick note, The Creator of the Patterns from the Echo Base Rebels Site is a She, not a he :)

Other then that, I'm loving the development of this. :)

Re: x-wing flight suit run by Loanstar

The fabric may be thicker, but I can appreciate the upgrade. I'd like to have an accurate jumpsuit down to the type of fabric, but for trooping purposes, having a more resilient fabric is more important.

Hey, these costumes get hot enough as it is! :) The flak vest is a serious insulator.

True, I hadn't considered the vest. I'm only needing the Tie pilot version, so I hadn't thought of that. I live in Houston, so as the locals here already know, you could be wearing shorts and still sweat your tail off during the summers, however come fall and winter, you'll be thanking the maker for that little bit of extra insulation. :thumbsup

Re: x-wing flight suit run by Loanstar

Honestly with my troops being confined to Florida and Atlanta a 4 to 5 oz. Cotton would be great. Right now I got the 7.5 oz poplin suit and it is quite warm.

Re: x-wing flight suit run by Loanstar

Ooh, glad I found this.

I'd be interested in a orange Rebel flightsuit, and a black Imperial flightsuit as well if that happens. I would also like to know details about price and shipping at some point as well.

Good luck with this project.

Be seeing you,

Magnus Darcrider

I'd be in for a Orange flightsuit, pending price and final details.

Re: x-wing flight suit run by Loanstar

Awesome stuff!

You do some darn fine work sir!

In fact I would almost say that yours looks nicer than the original! :lol

The only thing that sticks out to me that hasnt ben mentioned, the stitch and/or thread seems to be bigger on the screen used... and the parts that are stitched together (overlapped) seem more pronounced on yours...

The screen used is less pronounced everywhere it seems, other than appearing to have either bigger thread or bigger stitch pattern.

I know NOTHING about sewing, so its hard to explain what Im getting at, I just know what it looks like, and Ive speant many years staring at OT stuff. Your deffinately almost screen accurate, and your workmanship is top notch.

Cant wait to see the finished pieces, and hopefully pick a couple up! ;)

Re: x-wing flight suit run by Loanstar

How are these things sized? To get a 6'04" person in one, would I have to order a XXL and deal with the huge suit to get the length?

I might also be interested in a Rebel Pilot and a Tie Fighter Pilot.
Very nice work !

Re: x-wing flight suit run by Loanstar

Dont know if the grey ATAT driver flightsuit is of the same design or not. But if it is, how about a run of grey ones too?

Re: x-wing flight suit run by Loanstar

a couple of weeks later...
Sry that this took so long but i had some work for CIV ;)
The pics are a little dark, i will make some better quality pics by daylight soon.

About the changes:
1. I changed the triangular tab at the throat , its now longer and more accurate than before.
2. I moved the leg pockets up and shorten them a little
3. I changed the cuff tabs from pointing in- to pointing outward ;)
4. I made the cylinder poket a little shorter
5. I shorted the arm poket on the right arm
