This isn't much to report, but this thread may well go on for a while so posting bits and pieces is probably best...interesting or not :wacko
Those transports look fantastic!
View attachment 812853View attachment 812854View attachment 812855so this is nothing that hasn't been seen before. I bounced back to kit building from the temporary focus on hangar greebs. Since this is a "sideline" xwing I didn't light the engines or landing gear this time, but did a few FO points in the cockpit for effect. Xwing #3 will get the same. I loosely followed the tips page on the Bandai sight, and it was easier than the way I did it the first time. Given the limited lighting, this kit should be short work. Then perhaps the other maintenance scaffold I want to scratch up. need one on that right wall like is in a few of the set images...with the dual "3 spot light" clusters this time. if I can figure out a cheap easy way to do it, I'll upgrade the first one as well. The nice thing about this dio build is the ability to switch off what I'm working on to stem the tedium.

View attachment 812908well now, look what I stumbled upon on Shapeways...1/72 scale, 20 bucks...I think I'll save myself the work of scratching any more. Although it was good practice, I wish I'd seen this before :facepalm
Hey that’s a pretty good option and find Ross , but it still won’t be as cool - nor as satisfying as the one you scratched yourself!
Besides , from experience having ordered various Shapeways parts myself ( Deago MF build ) , you may still end up with an item that’ll need seriously careful sanding if you’re after a cleaner finished looking piece like yours
But , I’m guessing time spent / shared on other components for this epic build of yours is a major factor ... not to mention the other non - modelling projects you’ve on your plate too !
:cheersGed
p.s. Having said all that , thanks for sharing your findings too mate :thumbsup
Would like to know where abouts in Shapeways are you searching for discovering the SW items you have so far - referring especially to the transport vehicle ?
I saw that gantry too and have been thinking long and hard whether to pull the trigger. Like you said though, I've gotten some 'passable' but pretty poor quality prints before. Unfortunately I don't have the mad skills that some of you guys have, that plus I tend to way over engineer things, so for me to scratch build one it would take me forever to get done as well as cost a small fortune because I'd have to keep buying things to try and tweak.
Same here, it was in my cart and then disappeared... when I readded it I saw the price went up.
think the designer is watching this forum lol![]()
no didn't order one yet. I was thinking about it and then he upped the price after I had it in my cart and that kinda rubbed me wrong.

Shapeways goes through a preliminary check if the 3D art is printable in all its available materials. Once gt350pony66 placed his order, Shapeways then goes through a secondary check to see if the 3D art is indeed printable. They canceled the order when they saw that some areas were too thin to print in the selected materials (which is the most common reason). Shapeways then will remove those materials automatically from any future orders, which is what I would suspect happened to your order. Shapeways then chose the remaining material on the list that cleared their checks. The difference in cost is the difference in materials used for finer detail vs softer detail.
