X-Men First Class Movie Discussion

I didn't see too much of Singer's direct influence. Yes, it's obvious this is a prequel of the Singer films - but, I found it much better than any Singer film post 1998.

You didn't see Singer's influence? As in anything X1 related? The Auschwitz scene and X1 theme music was a dead giveaway.

With all the close-knit themes, footage in the begining, I'm sure Matthew Vaughn received alot of advice from Bryan Singer. Probably out of respect/continiuty for the first two films. You can see and hear Singer's influence throughout the movie.

I have to say it felt absolutely like a prequel, with so many cameos included and that openning nod to the first film. It fitted into the original film mythology like a glove ( though it was a pretty jazzed up diamond studded glove at that)!
It did at times feel like a hybrid child of a Bond movie and Austin SUPERPowers and they managed to cram in such a hell of alot and at such a pace that if you blinked you could miss it but overall it was an all out great actioner and it still had a few really humane moments scattered through it that made X2 such a standout.
Easily the second best out of the four for me. A lot of press has picked up on the "comparitively low" box office, but if they had released it world wide first before the States like Thor I think Word of Mouth would have boosted it easily and perhaps it will have longer legs as a result. Still not certain about Green Lantern ,though Super 8 looks far better than I hoped.

they did release it elsewhere before US, we got it a few days earlier here in Scotland. Yeah the whole Bond feel was just a nod to charles being a sauve English mofo. Personally this is my favourite out the bunch, there is a massive amount of nods to the other films, without putting the constraints on it as a reboot or a prequel. Plus I dont think they wanted returning audiences to be overly like "wtf is going on?" and have an association for the fans of the older movies. As to wether they will run it as a prequel or reboot will be determined by the major factor that is if they get the go ahead on a sequel to first class. Maybe a second class or xmen: after school special :ninja

I don't see how anyone (director or audience) can claim this movie isn't a direct prequel to the trilogy when they start this movie off with the EXACT same scene as X-Men. If that isn't a needle full of "this is the same universe" in your arm, I don't know what is.

This about sums it up for me. :thumbsup

Really surprised how much I liked it.

A pretty good story with characters you care about. Great acting. Kevin Bacon, although he did fine, kinda took me out of the movie when on screen.

Better than Iron Man 2 and Thor for sure.

I just got home from watching it and what a good movie. I was completely surprised. I do agree it has been the best X-Men movie to date.

I did a brief search of the thread, and couldn't find any reference to this, so apologies if it's been mentioned.

Only one 'gap' in the movie IMHO, that seemed to me to be out of place regarding continuity.

Mystique is supposed to have showed up at Xavier's home, and they grew up together.

He even introduces her as his sister at the start.

However, in no previous X-Men movies do I believe that Prof. X ever refers to or shows any previous sort of 'bond' with Mystique.

The rest all fits in perfectly.

Or is it me that is missing something ?

On the other hand, he 'pushed' her to go, gave her his blessing so to speak as in "You should go. It's what you want". And they part with no resentment.

I don't think it's a matter of Xavier holding any grudge IMO.

Still think its a continuity flaw (?).

Nope .. still fresh in my mind.

I saw the ending an hour ago :lol

They even smile at each other a bit.

Sad yes. Bitter ? Nah.

Was there any scene where they actually interact in the other 3 movies? I'm comming up empty. X1 he was in a coma for the fight, X2, kidnapped, X3 eh sorta dead.

I thought it actually went far to explaining the unknown in X1 about how Mystique knew so much about getting around the mansion.

I'll join the choir, I thought it was a great movie, too.

I did give the Mystique / Xavier relation a small thought, but it's been too long since I've seen the three original movies for me to judge anything. But hey, that give me an excuse to see them again soon!

Exactly.

Further makes me believe that the 'sister / adoption' bit was made up for this prequel.

The knowing her way around the mansion wasn't really emphasised. Just a 'coz she can' movie thing. Many other villains mysteriously know exactly where to go in almost all other movies.
