X-Men First Class Movie Discussion

The movie was good. I can't remember what was on the german coin. I would like to get one for my prop collection if any one can remember what it was. Thanks.

The eagle with the Swastika on one side, but different from the standard insignia - a cross between the wings straight down and wings out to the sides version. Cannot recall if it was the same on the other side.

Just came back to rant about it. But everyone seems to have done it for me, so I'll just share this:

Just staying truer to source material.

I love this criticism of the X-Men movies, because of all comics you could make a movie of, the X-Men is the most convoluted, contradictory mess of them all. I just look at the movies as another iteration of the concept. :lol

Just saw it, and I really enjoyed it. The two main characters play off of each other very well, and make the movie IMO. The effects were great, cameos were excellent, action was great, story was pretty good, and the acting was pretty good.

If I had to nitpick, I'd say that the guy who plays Banshee looks too much like Ron from Harry Potter. I also think that the Beast FX was pretty weak, especially compared to Mystique.

Still, thought it was a great movie, and hope that they make a few more with this group.

You mean 'concept' of comic to film?

You must be really looking foward to Green Lantern... :rolleyes

Nice to see a least one costume designer who doesn't think the gear needs to look like a motocross suit.

I meant the core concepts addressed in the comics adapted into live-action, yeah.

As a matter of fact, I am. I can't believe I've lived so long as to be able to see a theatrical film about a bunch of space cops with magic rings come out that doesn't look like Charles Emerson Winchester from M*A*S*H is playing Martian Manhunter.

Wife insisted we go see it tonight. (She's a huge Macavoy fan. Prrrr.)
We both had a great time with it!
Fun, fun! Beautiful women, beautiful costumes, and some beautiful character moments with Charles and Erik. The finale played like gangbusters.

To reverse a previous criticism here, most of the pieces that didn't work for me were moments that felt like they adhered TOO CLOSELY to the source material. Not enough to spoil my enjoyment.

So you're okay with all the deviations in other comic films?

I already want my money back from this film. Not hatin' on GL or DC, just the lead actor made this whole project possible. Oh, if the sell-out has the balls to go back to a Marvel film, so help me Stan Lee....

Absolutely. Putting Tom Sawyer in LOEG doesn't change the comic at all. Comics and movies are two different beasts. I can't wait until they put unicorns and Girl Scouts in the Astronauts in Trouble movie.

I think Ryan Reynolds is hilarious, and I have since A Guy, A Girl, and A Pizza Place. Hal Jordan could use a little wise-crackin', the stiff.

Just got back. Best X-Movie yet as far as I'm concerned. Played beautifully into the other movies for the most part. My only issues were... spoilery. ****.

So in the comics, Alex Summers is Cyclop's younger brother. It's not addressed in this film at all, but there is no way that is true here. This Havok has to be more like Cyclop's dad or uncle. Weird?

Also, I love how they wrapped the scene at the end when Magneto is deflecting the bullets. However, it doesn't jive with the scene from X3 where a clearly older Eric and Charles visit young Jean Grey...

Any opinions on those items?

So Xavier lost his ability to use his legs towards the end of the movie...then in the beginning of X3 when he was much older he was still able to walk? I'm confused.

I think first class is just suppost to be a nod to X1, since no one really registers X3 or Wolverine as movies, plus its not in continuity with the other films, it is its own film just keeping true to relationships, not who was where when.

and as for Ryan Reynolds GL, its gradually growing on me. Plus I have the biggest man crush on him. Oh and he is going back to Marvel as he is the main man pushing to get a Deadpool film that is true to the merc with a mouth.

I thought the movie was great....

but why not use the original five X-Men, this was the chance.

Cyclops was barely used in the other movie, so explore this more.
Icemanm they used EmmFrost any way so why not.
Beast, well there he was.
Angel, they give another character his name? WTF!!!
Marvel Girl, okay possibly the most boring charater (pre-Phoenix) to ever come out of Marvel and with Charles being a teep too, I can see not needing her.

PLUS the movie really isn't about the kids so much as Charels and Erik. So did it matther that much WHICH kids it was this time.

Also if they were just looking for new powers to highlight, use the evil guys for that.

So why not the original guys? Chances are the general public wouldn't have noticed either way.

Well... can't use Cyclops as he was in the other movies and this one is supposed to be a prequel of sorts to those - at least the two Singer versions, from what I can gather.

I think it was cool that they introduced characters that haven't been seen in the first X movies, characters you know (even if it was out of continuity.) Good characters, awesome story, insane climax, and an interesting ending. With this many X Men characters, they can pretty much make as many X movies/ spinoffs as they want. I wanna go again but need to pay my phone bill!
