X-Men: Days of Future Past (Post-release)

Watched the movie on Thursday. It was much better than I was expecting and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The scenes with QuickSilver were awesome, as well as the first scene with Wolverine when he first wakes up in 1973. Definitely will be getting this on bluray and seeing all the deleted scenes to check out the prison breakout with Rogue.

So what I don't get is that I guess many of the other X-Men movies were pretty much retconned after this one? I suppose X-3 never happened (Jean Grey and Scott Summers being alive at the end) and also X-2 to some extent (Jean Grey not dying and being taken over by the Phoenix Force). Or was X-3 never canon (as Rogue is still supposed to have her powers in the future and Charles Xavier is still in his original body)? How does Wolverine get the adamantium if Stryker doesn't get him (at the end we see that Wolverine is still alive after being fished out of the river but the Captain Stryker who takes charge of him is actually Raven)?

Can anyone elaborate?

Heh. When Wolverine wakes up in his new future, you can tell it's the future by his hologram alarm clock, his grey hairs, and the technology incorporated in the classrooms. Heck, even Scott's everyday visor/glasses were future looking. It's too bad the Professor didn't get a hover chair like in the comics.

Saw it today and really enjoyed it. It was a nice send off (if that's what it is) for the "old" team, but seeing them together again makes me want to see another movie with them. The younger team was great too and the use of Wolverine instead of Kitty like the comic was done better than expected.

In addition... Cyclops is probably my favorite X-Men character, so I'm thankful that he and Jean returned in the altered timeline. The last five minutes or so were worth the price of admission alone, just for wiping that god-awful X3 off the map.
 
Nice find. So all previous X-Men movies never happened? Or they happened slightly differently then those movies portrayed?

So if they do another xmen movie, will it be set in the new timelines past? Or the new present with "old" wolvie?
 
Great film. I was half expecting to see Raven and Eric at the school. That might have been a bit much though. I learned something I didn't know - I was puzzled by Trask's comparing the Sentinels' flight capabilities to a Harrier jet. I didn't (until I just looked it up) realize that those things first flew in the 60's. I thought they were late 70's. Live and learn...

I'm pretty sure he did have it at the end. I don't think it was the same model as he had in the future, but I didn't see wheels.

It will be in the past of the new timeline, more likely in the 80s as confirmed by Simon Kinberg.

He did have the hover chair in the end, I looked. Also, there was a young jean cameo when Magneto was hovering with RFK stadium

I also found this gem about the sequel. The original cast members WILL be back for it.

Man.... that was GREAT movie! I liked, but did not love the first trilogy, didn't care for any of the Wolverine movies, loved First Class and loved this one even more. Whoever is writing these is doing a great job and the actors are doing their part as well. Great stuff all the way around. Engaging. Entertaining. Just the right amount of humor. And most importantly, these movies make you FEEL something! I love moving that I walk out in a whirl of emotion and questions and this one gave me plenty. Lots of highs and lows and at times, I truly did not know exactly how it would end and who would make it.
 
I did not expect to like this one at all... I was prepared for the worst - not being a fan of the original X-Men films (but enjoyed The Wolverine - and X-Men: First Class is just amazing) and just really not digging Singer much.

...but, this surprised me. While far from perfect, I found Days of Future Past a whole lot of fun and very enjoyable. I was worried that there was just too big of a cast and just looked way too busy... but, Singer did it right and stuck to a few main characters and we didn't have to worry too much about the secondary cast (they were just there, we didn't need all the explaining).

I am bummed that we really didn't get a direct sequel to First Class. To an extent, I think it deserved a bit of a follow up... Vaughn really set this whole thing up and really righted the ship after the first three subpar X-Films. I think Singer took his cues from First Class and was able to mash the two together and kept it all together using more the FC mold than his own.

I just wish we didn't see Scott and (especially) Jean at the end. I'll always think those two were terribly miscast and it looks like we'll never get a proper Dark Phoenix saga.

I'm also sick of hearing these filmmakers yap their lips about the other films. It really makes them sound very bitter and egotistical - let the work speak for itself and distance yourself from the others if you'd like, but the more you talk the less I want to see a sequel.
