X-Men: Days of Future Past (Post-release)

I'll just add that I am very glad that Quicksilver wasn't in this too much. ...and while he stuck out like a sore thumb and his appearance didn't seem to make much sense, he wasn't nearly as bad as he could've been and appeared to be.

The acting in the movie was pretty solid... Fassbender and McAvoy leading the way and really seemed to make the other actors step up their games. However, Dinklage just acted terribly (for me) - he just seemed to be going through the motions. I haven't watched Game of Thrones - but, it is on my 'watch' list, if this is an indication of the acting in it, I don't see me making it through much of it.

X:DOFP blew away Amazing Spider-Man 2, but didn't quite match Cap.
 
Dinklage won a well-deserved Emmy for Game of Thrones. I agree that this wasn't his best acting role, but it didn't look like they gave him much to work with.
 
You do know that singer helped write and most importantly, produced first class, right? That movie was all his, not Vaughn's, he just directed it.

...but, this surprised me. While far from perfect, I Days of Future Past a whole lot of fun and very enjoyable. I was worried that there was just too big of a cast and just looked way too busy... but, Singer did it right and stuck to a few main characters and we didn't have to worry too much about the secondary cast (they were just there, we didn't need all the explaining).

I am bummed that we really didn't get a direct sequel to First Class. To an extent, I think it deserved a bit of a follow up... Vaughn really set this whole thing up and really righted the ship after the first three subpar X-Films. I think Singer took his cues from First Class and was able to mash the two together and kept it all together using more the FC mold than his own.

I just wish we didn't see Scott and (especially) Jean at the end. I'll always think those two were terribly miscast and it looks like we'll never get a proper Dark Phoenix saga.

I'm also sick of hearing these filmmakers yap their lips about the other films. It really makes them sound very bitter and egotistical - let the work speak for itself and distance yourself from the others if you'd like, but the more you talk the less I want to see a sequel.

Yes, I was aware of his involvement.

Singer will tell you he did everything but the catering. But, he was too busy with the amazing success of Jack the Giant Killer. The movie has at least 8 producers credited as well.

Yes, he did come up with the basic idea and a story outline - but they didn't keep the script Schwartz or Moss had worked on with Singer. How much of the original Singer version isn't really known... but, you may as well say Stan Lee wrote it at that point.

When and how did the present day/future Wolverine get his Adamantium claws back? He lost those in The Wolverine. Where was the explanation to Xavier's coming back to life?
 
Yeah, what was up with that? Ruining the Weapon X timeline? You could've had Omega Red and all the other Weapon X team mates as claw fodder for Wolverine's 5th solo installment.

Maybe they were so horrified with Origins: Wolverine (Like me) that they just banished Deadpool and Stryker from ever appearing. Who wants to get a cameo from Will.I.AM?!:lol

I must be the only one who thought it was boring. Quicksilver caught my attention and so did the JFK/ Magneto connection but after that to me it dragged to a halt and didn't pick back up until I was ready for it to end.
 
I thought this movie was great! I'm really glad they made it so X3 and possibly X2 never happen! I really don't like Jennifer Lawrence as mystique. Jennifer is prettty smokin, but I think Mystique needs more of the muscular build. But I think Lawrence plays the Raven part well.
 
The writer himself admitted that they could have gone further with the darker elements of the story, but I don't think they will consider doing that with the current team.

To do the Dark Phoenix story justice they have to build up the core team for at least two movies, so that during the fall out it bears strong significance. Unless a refresh reboot happens, I don't think they should attempt that story again.

"I regret that The Dark Phoenix story wasn’t the primary story of the movie," he told ScreenCrush. "I wanted The Dark Phoenix story, but I regret where the movie ended up. And so, weirdly, ['DOFP'] was sort of my opportunity, a little like the characters in ‘Days of Future Past’ going back and improving their younger selves with the lessons they’ve learned as wiser men. It’s sort of a chance for me to go back and do differently what I did ten years ago on ‘X3.’ "

But Kinberg believes it was also a different era, and a darker storyline probably wouldn't have sold. "Listen, I think if we made that movie today, there are a lot of things that would be different," he added. "The universe today, culturally, is more open to a darker superhero film. And the darkness of her story was a little bit daunting on a huge $200 million studio movie. And, it would be less daunting today."

I was REALLY expecting not to like this character, but was surprised at how much I ended up liking him and how well he was handled overall. I think this speaks to something else the movie handled very well: comedy. So many movies just don't handle comedic moments and instead of breaking the tension, poorly placed comedy can ruin a movie. I think the small glints of comedy were handled very well, including QuickSIlver. I'd really like to know what that one main scene with him cost. That was incredibly impressive and fun.

That's a surprise as he's not exactly the most likeable character in the marvel universe even when he's one of the good guys.
 
I think the keypoint about Quicksilver in this movie is that his appearance was brief. He didn't have a chance to overstay his welcome.

I agree to a point. I walked out of this movie kind of disappointed. Loved the bleak future opening. The Sentinels were scary as hell. Enjoyed the first half. LOVED the Quick-Silver scene in the kitchen. But the last half didn't come together for me. The role of villain is diluted between Trask, the Sentinels, and Magneto. None of them, I felt, really had enough presence in the film. And Dinklage, I felt, as Trask is reduced to a one-dimensional character. Which is a shame because he's SO good on GOT. Other characters are barely in the story. It was good in places. But I liked FIRST CLASS much more. And X2 probably best of all.

BTW, Why doesn't Professor X, at the end, just telepathically tell Mystique she'll doom the world if she kills Trask? Instead he begs her to take the high road and not kill a human even though humans are game to wipe out mutants.

She was in the National Mall looking up as the stadium was going by. There's no mistaking that was a kid Jean because the camera panned directly on her and the shade of red the hair was the same as the adult Jean at the end.
 
Was I the only one that thought the future Sentinels were a tad too similar to Thor's Destroyer?
 
I went for the sole purpose of seeing Blink. Only wished she could have used her javelins but otherwise loved her in the film.
