Worlds Largest STAR WARS Millennium Falcon Death Star Hangar Docking Bay 327 Build!

A long time ago... (2 years to be specific), this passion project began to take shape. What started as a dream quickly grew into the world’s largest STAR WARS Hangar Bay 327 ever constructed! At 1/32 scale and weighing in at 450 pounds, this diorama measures 60” in length x 48” in width x 22” in height. The scene portrays the iconic scene of the Millennium Falcon inside the Death Star’s Hangar Bay from “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.”

I spent pretty much the best part of a year working out the floor tiling and wall blueprints for this bay, so I know it backwards. I think I've pretty much got the most accurate tiling plan that's ever been done...more accurate than the one John Knoll did for his CG Death Star recreation a few years ago.

My project stalled due to work - I was aiming to build the most accurate SMALLEST hangar. At the other end of your scale!

Hi Rober,
No problem, for the interior wall color I used Slate Blue by Rustoleum in the Satin finish. The floor is laser cut black acrylic and for the white arrows, I applied high gloss permanent vinyl. Remember to use a soapy water solution with a spray bottle then squeegee the water out. Set aside for several minutes and let it dry. Then trim the excess vinyl with a Exacto knife using a #11 blade. The TIE fighter on the 3D printed wall hangar was purchased on eBay and it is close to 1/32 scale.

The audio file I found on YouTube. It is made by a company called Grave Decor and the guy’s name is Steve. Here is the link to his video:

it is an MP3 Player Motion Sensor with 3 Watt Audio Header Pins. You can also use a stereo amp out to larger speakers. I used the TPA3116D2 Dual Channel Audio Amplifier Board, DC12-26V from Amazon. I have a detailed schematic in my build photos section above illustrating the wiring connections.

The entire frame I sourced out to a local wood shop who did the CNC work for me. I used 2 sheets of 3/4" (4'x8') Baltic Birch plywood. I also have all of the 3D printed characters saved as STL files seen in this build if anyone would like them. If you do not own a 3D printer I use a company called Craft Cloud. They give you 10% off your first order as well as if you refer another customer they give both of you 10% off as well. Here is their website: https://craftcloud3d.com.

For the floor chase lights I used a company in Bulgaria via Etsy. The guy’s name is Georgi and is very helpful. Here is the link to his shop: https://www.etsy.com/listing/512551...ick_sum=fae4533d&ref=user_profile&frs=1&sts=1 .

All of the greebles used on the main bridge and other places were purchased at a local thrift shop. I purchased an old Canon printer for $10 and gutted it completely. You’d be surprised how many cool parts were inside. I think I covered it all but if you need any other information please let me know, good luck!

Almost forgot, if anyone needs the STL files for all the 3D printed parts, they are all scalable. I also have the CNC DXF drawings and AI laser cutting files as well. For the audio section I found the "Death Star ambiance sound" I found on YouTube.

I am attaching my 2 page PDF cost sheet for this entire build from start to finish. It contains, materials, vendors, quantities, specifications, and everything else that went into this build. I know some of you may hit the floor when you see the final tally at the bottom of the second page, sure enough I did, but in the long run it was well worth every penny spent on it.

Ah yes, the centerpiece for the display. I purchased it about 15 years ago. It is the Master Replica's Studio Scale Millennium Falcon. This heavy model measures 32" x 24" x 6" [81.3cm X 61cm X 15.2cm] and weighs in about 50 pounds [22.7KG]. In order to make it stand, I 3D printed the landing gears and used industrial strength foam "twin-stick" to attach it.

The MR Falcon is actually closer to 1:43 scale, so it's not actually in scale with the rest of the build. However...! The full size set built for the film was also 20% undersized, so in a really odd way, it works out just about perfectly!
