Wonder Woman 1918 photograph

What process are you using to produce your vinyl layer? And how are you affixing it to the glass? I used to work with vinyl a lot as a sign writer but I don’t know if any of my advice is worthwhile until I understand your process better.
It's printed on 4mil pressure sensitive vinyl on a digital offset press. Four color process with white ink. Because it is second surface mounted, the four color ink goes down first followed by a white ink pass. I'm burnishing the vinyl down by hand with a soft cloth. But the pressure needs to be higher to remove those small air bubbles. Also can't have anything abrasive as the white ink is very delicate.

OK, I understand now. Are you able to do a wet application or does it need to be dry?

When I’ve applied vinyl graphics to glass I’ve always sprayed a film of water+mild detergent onto the glass first to stop the adhesive gripping until the vinyl’s in position. It’s also easier to work the bubbles out. Obviously with the delicate back you’ve got a second problem as you have to be gentle with the application… so I guess a sheet of clear acetate or something behind your print might help protect it whilst you squeegee out the bubbles?

Not sure if that would work for you as I’ve never used such delicate materials as you’re attempting but might be worth a go if you're determined. Hat’s off to you for having a go and making such a good job of it on your first try.

I can try it again and spritz some soapy water on the glass to see if it helps. I was going to see if I can run the material through a coater to add a layer pf protection for the white ink. But, can also try a separate acetate sheet. Thanks for the suggestions.

Sticking the contact paper to your print will transfer the toner from your ordinary paper to the sticky transparent film. The next step is to soak the two connected sheets in water, which softens up the white paper and allows it to be rubbed off. What you’re left with is a piece of wet transparent contact paper that features your photo. Let it dry to restore its stickiness, and then attach the resulting “sticker” to whatever you’d like to show off your photo on (e.g. glass jars, candle holders, windows etc.)

You could also sandwich a print like this:

In between two 1/16 8" x 10" picture frame glass panes from here:

Just need to figure what to use to wrap the two panes of glass with something to keep them together around the outer edges. Maybe trimmed packing tape. But it would have to be really sticky to make sure the panes don't come apart. This would be the best way to protect any clear printed image of this prop.

Anybody try with Laser Waterslide Decal Paper ?

This is the route I would go. I would take a piece of glass or clear plexi, cut to size, and print out either a laser or ink jet waterslide decal. Then apply it. After it dries, you can add a semi gloss or glass spray over it to lock it down. I would opt for a semi gloss, so it gives it a little texture. Once that dries, you can then do some acrylic washes to the semi gloss sprayed size, and especially focus on making some of the edges a little aged and darker.

Or something I will try to experiment; Print the photo on a transparent and laminate it in 250µ. Will see that later.

Hi
I'm a new member (i'm french)
I've received my art book Wonder Woman The Art and Making Of The Film with à little present: a negative of the picture.
It's transparent and I prefere leave it as is.

Heres my attempt, big thanks to Mike J. for the amazing work on the image and for sharing.

I printed onto waterslide decal paper, coated with 3 clear coats of acrylic spray (learnt the hard way as the ink on my first attempt just washed off), then placed onto a thin 3mm piece of clear perspex. I went with 10x7 inch as i printed both it and 10x8 which in hand looked to big to me. The waterslide dried nicely (or so I thought) as a few hours later it had real bad bubbles. I used a pin to gently let the air out and push them down which helped but then I wanted to seal it with a final spray of clear coat which then made the bubbles become hard little raised lines. I was able to rub it a bit to smooth them out as it dried but the decal paper began to stretch in one particular spot (see photo).

It kinda adds some wear and tear and there isn't really any other noticeable bubbles so im pretty happy with it..
I also made Waynes note. Took a bit to get the sizing right but im fairly happy now.
