ok guys the creation process went well i have made one single claw from wood and i am now ready to use this to make a silicone mould so whats the problem

i need the perfect casting box and so i need a couple of pointers here...do i go with a two part mould or a solid all on one mould because

with a two part it would be easy to free the cast from the mould but with a seam

and with a solid will it acualy come out of the mould without damage to the mould

any tips are welcome

Hey guys is this stuff ok for making claws with or would the final product just snapto easily?

Hi m8

Um! from the label this is hand laminating resin, which would indicate its used for wetting out fibreglass matting, and being low styrene means it will be quite thick. I used to make stuff in fibreglass and it will be way too brittle because its suppose to be used with matting not alone.

Saying that also from the label you're in the Uk so you need to be especially careful when using these, as plod considers them an offensive weapon, plastic or not, and if you can jab someone and hurt them then it's not good. If you plan to use them to go to a convention then some will check on the door, but if they are for your own use, never to leave the house then it's ok. If you're using them for conventions, you're better off casting them in a hard compound rubber and then painting them to look silver.

On the moulding front if they are for your own use never to leave the house it's going to be cheaper and easier to just make them from wood. However if moulding in a single piece mould you will have trouble getting the resin to flow into the very tip, where a two part mould you can run a air channel up to the top to let the air escape.

However what you really want is a ceramic set of these, then they would give plod something to worry about ;) ;)

Cool thanks they will just be for my friends for home use and display

What do you suggest I use to cast?
