Wolf mask, Completed !

Ok im gettin impatient ggrrrr, i took the rear of the mold off as it felt dry ( ish ) bad idea, its obviously very very soft in places. gonna have to pack with newspapaer to stop wrinkles now.

NO way i can try to get the front off :D

is it possible to speed this process up by using a hairdryer?

i just wanna see 1st pull ggrrrrrrrrr hehe

When I needed to make quick pulls I did use a hairdryer, but one with a hose attacthed to it and I made a frame so the hose would sit in the opening and blow the air around...i then made holes in the hose to give a more ven flow of air...worked quite well...Nowadys though i put the stone molds in the oven I've got....How long have you let the mold parch mate...I tend to leave a stone mold to parch for at least a week before attempting to soak it and mold anything. Before you ask I soak them to relieve the chance of air bubbles developing from the liquid being drawn out throught he stone too quick.

The front section was cast on the 2nd Feb so its had plenty of time.

the rear was done on the 6th Feb so that had 7 days.

I have a old hairdryer i can place in the opening, will this effect the latex in anyway if its too hot etc?

Ive never soaked my molds as i feared that the plaster would degrade quicker, whether this was daft or not i dont know, all i know is i have had over 20 pulls from the Alpha plaster open mouthed P1 i did ( even though i found out afer the plaster wasnt the best hehe , its stood up pretty well :D )

ill await a answer before i go pushing hot air in hehe.

You shouldn't get any adverse effects from thehairdryer mate Maybe a tad more shrinkage than would be normal, or the latex wanting to pull away from the walls of the mold. Don't worry about soaking as you only dunk the mold until it stops bubbling then you pat it dry, put the halves together and put the latex in it. If you're unsure as to how the plaster might react to it, then don't do it. always better toe rr on the side of caution...My reasons are because i only do limited runs or even just a single piece for a commission. Seeing as you've produced a fair few your first need is to keep the molds integrity as long as poss

coolness

hairdryer lodged in place :D i still think ill leave him in the mold till tomorrow.

purely as a tease lol .

/me runs away.

I use a hairdryer all the time, i've read speed drying makes the latex weaker but to be honest i've never had a problem, i tend to leave the hairdryer in the opening, i drilled a big hole in a piece of wood and use that to sit the hairdryer in, leave it on a medium setting

Well i couldnt wait could i , mind you i suppose i was gonna find out it looked like this eventually so at least its put me out of my misery eh.

as promised ill post pictures in the next hr.

thx.

i'll put you out of your misery alright.....

I'm sure the headpiece will be fine, despite the troubles you've had .

PIcs in an hour.........can we wait any longer?

Ok heres a pics damaged area i was worried about, apprently the watery plaster did its job pretty well, as all that can be seen it s small undent.

yay for mrs surps.

the other damage is a few small bubbles in the latex, these are easily patched, and i figure it because ive never had to brush latex into such a detailed mold before, i think i maybe rushed as i wasnt expecting it to work etc, theres about 7 little holes but thats it, and they are all around the mouth area.

just uploading pics of the rest of him.

ITS A BOOOOOOOOOOOOY.

a real ugly ****** also :D

Totally happy with this , its very soft still, so it is not holding its shape very well, ive taken a couple of quick pictures anyway as i promised, ive now packed him full of newspaper, which is how he'll stay for a week or so , until hes cured.

is a week long enough before i can paint?

then i can get around to the fun of painting him.

anyway, let the doubting slaps commence.

I'm so pleased it worked out good in the end for you mate

I see you went for the seem line across the spikes, good choice
The cast looks great.

One thing though :D
don't stuff news papers into your latex masks, the inks in the print over time can cause rot in the latex.

best to stuff them with black bags mate

That looks bloody cool bud, as for patching, use latex and tissue,(bogroll) and latex or for larger areas, kitchen roll, works a treat.
If its still soft leave it overnight in a warm room, sit it on a chair close to a radiator, it'll be ready to paint tomorrow, not to close obviously.

Thx Suckface, i decided on the spike seam line hehe

Ian, Thankfully all the holes are very small, litterally * size so its just a dab of latex in all i think :D

Im not going to attempt to paint him until next weekend, that way i dont rush patching/seaming or attatching the mandibles.

now i know its worked, can chill and enjoy the rest of the process.

pheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew.
