I'd like to share the progress of my Alan Scott metal power ring. Here's a pic of it next to my Alan Scott power ring prop ring.

here's a pic of the supplies that make up the ring

I have enough material to make 5 more of these rings. Of course this ring needs to be cleaned up and painted green. What's everyone's opinion about adding a handle to the ring. I've seen a lot of comic images of Alan's ring that include the handle on the ring but just as many, if not more, without the handle. The band is aluminum cut off of a small LED flashlight body. The body of the ring is made from the center portion of a bearing. These bearing were replaced at my work and were thrown out. When I saw them I immediately thought of a Alan Scott ring. so far I'm pleased with how it's turned out.

Very nice, I did one out of hardware as well a while ago. Cheap easy and good looking.

As to the handle I have never been a fan of having one on there.

Thanks for the feedback tk1055. I was leaning towards no handle also, but I do have enough to make 5 rings, including the peridot for the center, so maybe at least one of them will have a handle.

Very nice. Always glad to see an Alan Scott ring. About the prop ring in the picture, was that the nice one that was part of a set from DC Direct, or is it the plastic one that came with the figure?

That's the one that came with the ring prop busts. I have Alan, Kyle, and Sinestro. I need Hal Jordan to complete my set. The rings are really nice and removable from the busts and metal but alas they are non wearable pieces.

In all honestly,

DON'T be worried about consistency with the comics... Comic book artists have NEVER been consistent with GL ring designs! It's been all over the place since Alan Scott first appeared in late 1930/early 1940.

Stick with your own design. It's as valid as anything else!
(BTW, what is that middle part in your photo breakdown. I recognize what looks like a cap socket screw and a Philips flathead screw. The middle part is unfamiliar to me.)

I've seen Alan Scott ring drawn from anything like a miniature version of his Power Battery/Lantern to a flat disc-shaped insignia ring like Hal Jordan's.

For that matter, all the GL Corps Lanterns were wearing rings like Kyle Rayner's supposedly original design in the mid-1980s!

DC only dreamt up this business of Rayner having a different ring design to differentiate him from Hal Jordan and the other GL's --- and it was still a reused ring design!

Right now, the thing is to draw all the various ring designs with the insignias on them. When Gil Kane started on the Silver Age Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), I don't think he bothered to draw much more than a disc on the ring most of the time...

like the lantern style
the bottom looks nice

maybe we should start a GL hardware ring thread

Sounds good. Maybe we could even have a custom hardware store GL ring contest. If someone could start one. Unfortunately I couldn't do it, I just don't have the time. I would however love to see what the people on this forum could do.

That middle part is from a bearing. I got these when some bearing were replaced on one of the machines where I work.

update on the ring. I got it cleaned up and painted. I think it turned out fairly well. As you can see I went with a lighter shade of green as opposed to what was on the prop ring. I still plan on making more so I will experiment with the coloring on the next ones. Still not sure what I'll put into the center. The peridot is still a possibility, but it is a rough stone anyone know how to work a gem like this? I could just take a dremel to it and see what happens but I would like some advise first. On to the pics

Looking good. As for what to put in the center, it depends. If I remeber correctly, Alan Scot actually carved his ring from a small piece of his lantern. So tecnically the whole thing should be the same material. So it depends on wheter you want to go for acuracy or looks.
