Hi guys!
A fellow member commissioned this sculpt last month, and now I'm at a stage where I feel it's almost there.
I still have a long way to go before I do the texture work, but I'm pretty happy of how it's turning out.
I'm still tweaking the brow areas, the left side of the face and rounding off the bridge of the nose, but hopefully it's somewhat recognizable now.
After I finish the bald version, I'll be working on one with sculpted hair.

As always, I value the opinion of members here, so let me know what you guys think can be improved with the sculpt.

Here's a few pics:

And a side by side comparison of the "look" he wanted (It's not the exact angle, but hopefully it's close enough :D)

Thanks for looking,

Looking great so far.

Only thing I can really think of is the lips are a smidge too full. Welling can't act that well, but he rarely pouts, no matter how big of an ******* his fortress dad is being :lol

His Lips are way to big and it looks odd to have those big bags under his eyes. Something is odd with his chin as-well, Could need to be more sunken in.

Nice. One thing that immediately stands out is the size of his lips. Too wide and too fat. Slim and narrow them down a bit and the likeness may get closer.

Also, there's an issue with the right cheek (left in the picture). In the reference you can see that his cheekbone is very pronounced and the skin fold goes across and extends down to his chin and the rest of his cheek sweeps back towards the ears. On your sculpt you have the front of the face be rather flat and sweep back towards the ears and the cheek bone is sorta unconnected with anything. You have the right cheekbone/cheek look going on at the left cheek - you gotta copy what you did there and do that on the right cheek as well.

Basically think of the front part of his face as a V formation - the V going from upper ear tip to ear tip and down to his chin and everything outside that V just sweeps back.

And you may want to pull the inner eye corners down a bit more - not much, but you are lacking that trusting/worried droopy look to his eyes. And the right side of the nose sits slightly higher than the left side at the tip, so his nose openings are at a skewed angle to each other.

The bottom lip is too big.You can see it clearly in the side by side comparison shots of the actor and the sculpt. Looks like he's pouting. Off to a good start though. I can see a little resemblance to Tom.

Thanks for the input guys, it's just what I need. I have had the same changes in mind, but needed to get your thoughts.
I appreciate all the constructive criticism and although I only had a little time to sculpt today, here's what I have so far with some of the suggestions applied:

I'll keep trudging with the sculpt this week.

Already much, much improved. You still need to slim down the lips and remove some of the curvyness from them. When looking at the reference, his center mouth line is very straight, barely curved at all.

looks great. Not sure if it's the lighting, but the lips still look a little too full and the brows and cheek bones around the eyes seem too big as well. Also seems like the ears stick out too much and the neck isn't thick enough. But like I said, could be the lighting or the depth of where both pictures were taken. but honestly it looks amazing and I admire your talent.

Looking very good! Looking at his eyes, his left eye, his eye brow in the middle looks to fold over his eye lid hiding it some what. On your sculpt, the eye lid is visible all the way over the top of the eye.

That photo you posted might be a one off and in other reference it is not like this, thought id point it out though :)

It might be the lighting, but to me the lower left eye lid could be softer as it joins the cheek.

Superb! look forward to seeing it finished.

Nice work so far. But, the eyelid fold needs a little drop near the center of the eye. You can see it pretty clearly in the ref of Welling you posted. The eyelid fold is almost at his lashes on his left eye.

Thanks again guys!
Yep, I agree about the eye, and I'm still working on the shape of the upper eyelid, then I can put the skin that drops down from the brow.

As for the fullness of the lips, it does seem full for now, but hopefully when I sculpt the textures, it will provide the needed adjustment.

Really helpful suggestions guys and I appreciate all the comments, so please keep them coming.

just noticed something and not sure if it's the angle of your photo, but his lips in the corner seem to go downward instead of more back which would be parallel to a ground surface. This could help with the fullness of his bottom lip. Your sculpt gives him more of a pouty look, more than the smirk in the photo. Hopefully you understand what I'm talking about.

That is so excellent, I love it! As of yet, I haven't seen any sculpts yet that look any like Tom Welling but this one has nailed it :thumbsup. I WANT ONE!!! :cry

Looking GREAT! Aside from the lips stil being a bit to big may I suggest the jaw is a bit to narrow? Perhaps you could overlay the photos and compare?

GREAT WORK!
