WIP: 1:1 Tom Welling Bust SMALLVILLE - Need input

Hi, great job, my opinion some few a little adjustment base on the photo and angle that you gave us.
sugestion follow the red lines on the lips, the left side of his face the lip too long, more neck (i just comparing the photo) and reduce the bottom on the eyes area, probably with other photos i can be wrong but that is what i see.
BTW you are great artist!:thumbsup

I notices the "puffiness" and details under the eyes may need reducing and detailing.

The top right eyelid also should have a fold over the inner lid.

So far it's looking fan-friggin-tastic.

It's a joy to watch you sculpt. The improvements you are incorporating from the feedback make the piece so much better. A true artist.

Thanks again so much guys, your help is really appreciated!
Had some more time to sculpt today, added the little flap for the eyelid and refined the bags under his eyes. I also reworked the jawline and am now pretty happy with the shape of the profile, it's more slender now as it should be.

Anyway, here's some pics:

Still need to work on some more structural work (neck area, ears etc.), then off to skin textures.
Please feel free to post any further suggestions and critiques:thumbsup.

The mouth still looks too big and too protruding. If you could shrink it down by a few percent I really think it would seal the likeness as you can see the likeness from nose up, but the mouth throws everything off.

You can sorta make out the differences here. I just made the mouth a tiny bit smaller and the lower lip smaller still. Hope it shows up okay.

Yeah that pretty much nails it with the change to the lip. I don't really see anything else that needs changing.

Yeah, I was amazed at how little was needed and the second pic captures the likeness while the current look throws it off a bit. INSANE how so little alters everything.

Just going off these photos, I think your profile for his nose and mouth stick out too far. It also seems like his nose is too big. Looks awesome though.

Thanks guys! Yep, still trying to perfect the lip area, and I think it is mostly the bottom lip that needs to be scaled down a bit. The upper lip needs to be thickened a bit looking from the bottom up.

The profile needs a slight tweaking, but hopefully it's not too far off.
This pic is not a perfect profile, but you can see that his mouth does stick out a bit. I'll check more references and see what I can work out to make it closer.

You guys are probably tired of seeing the same angle pic so here's a new side by side pic:

As you can see, I still need a bit more work, but hopefully it's on the right track. The main parts I see need work is the cheek bone area and of course, those darn lips ;)

Yep, the top lip in that pic needs to be a bit fuller and bring the bottom in some. That angle clearly shows the difference. Almost there!

I can't wait to see it with hair! Will you be making these available to members? What would be cool is one version with his hair normal and one with his hair slicked back like when he's wearing his new red leather superman jacket.

It does looks awesome, but I still think that the chin area juts out too much, which I believe you can see from the lower angle photos. The whole bottom half of the sculpt, from the middle of the nose down, needs to be pulled back under the eyes more. I really think this would help with the profile and 3/4 views. The front is pretty much dead on though. I also feel that the bottom half is bigger than the top half which should be bigger than the bottom half.

To me, TW's face has a more softness in features than your sculpt which seems very rugged. Hope you understand what I'm trying to say. But, still, kudos to you as your talent is way better than I could even hope to do. :)

I'm just happy that my input helped improve this awesome sculpt. :thumbsup

And according to some I can now claim this piece as one of mine. :rolleyes (sarcastic remark intended as lighthearted humor, which failed miserably)

if this is the pic you're using for the profile, I say take a closer look at the lip area. It seems to be angled more in front of his face and I think what you're seeing for his protruding lip is the other side of the philtrim. This would bring the upper lip back further and make it appear less protruding, if it were more of a true profile.

I keep coming back to this thread cause I love to see this kind of work, but I always see something new, so sorry if it's getting annoying.
