I think it could be good.

From MSNBC.com:

"Will Smith is reportedly in talks to revive hit musical "Annie" on the big screen with his daughter Willow in the title role.

Bing: What are the best movie remakes?

The comic strip tale of Little Orphan Annie became a successful stage show in the 1970s and spawned a popular 1982 movie starring Albert Finney and Aileen Quinn.

The story was brought back by Disney for a 1999 TV movie, but Smith is now said to be in negotiations to take "Annie" to cinemas in a new remake.

Smith, who remade "The Karate Kid" with his son Jaden, has his 10-year-old singer daughter Willow in mind for the lead role, according to Variety.com.

The website reports rapper Jay-Z, who signed Willow to his Roc Nation record label, has been lined up to help with the film's score. The hip-hop mogul sampled a song from "Annie" in his 1998 single "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem).""

"I whip my hard knock life back and forth..."

No.

Man... Will Smith has been one of my favorites for some action movies and such, but when he started procreating I started to dislike what he's doing with those kids.

I miss when people got into films because they had great talent and not only because Daddy and Mommy are big stars.

I feel bad for all the great undiscovered talent out there being completely overshadowed by children of the stars. You can go to all the schooling and training you want, but if you don't know anyone you're not likely to get far (Notice I didn't say impossible, just very difficult).

Will smith is a pompus jerk. I understand remaking a movie in a particualr image, but dont put your untalented kids in it for the sake of giving them a fake career. I mean come on willow cant even belt out a song without auto tune.

So the guy has enough money and or power to fund vehicles for his kids. Big deal.

Don't you guys get your kids the best you can?

Don't like'em, don't go.

Full of Fail.

This could be worse than Kung-Fu kid.

Nothing will be as bad as his wife's ill-fated career in heavy metal.

Seeing Will Smith try to save her appearance at Pittsburgh Ozzfest while she got boo'd was priceless. :lol

If they're reviving the musical, it's going to be a very unusual take as I don't know how you could sidestep the race issue. There are songs about Hoover - hell, FDR is in the story and Annie herself helps to inspire the New Deal. You'll either have a white man adopting a young black girl, or you'll have an extremely powerful and rich black man who's got the President's ear - neither of which were unremarkable situations in the 1930s. You've really got to address or at least acknowledge those things if you force-fit them. I suspect they'll drop the songs dealing with the time period - who knows, maybe they just sing "Hard Knock Life" over and over again - and set it present day. That's just not Annie, is it? When you're forced to change so much fundamentally about a project, you really might as well just choose a new project.

Look, It's annoying when the co-worker whips out the foldex of 30 pics of the kid tumbling out of his wallet. Difference is, this will be On TV, in the Theaters, In magazines, on talk shows, in the $5 DVD Bin, it will be in your face for MONTHS. I didn't get my Kids "The Best" I got them what we could Reasonably afford, if they wanted the Air Jordans, and they were $150 over budget, they were always free to raise the $150 on their own, and I'd kip in the rest and buy them.

This is like a post dated Porno, and his Money Shots are getting daddy created Screen time. At least Michael Douglas, Scott Caan and Keifer and Yes, Nick Cage went out and carved their careers Primarily on their own, not having Daddy write them a movie. I Wanna Puke.

Yeah, screw Lloyd Bridges for giving us the entertainment Beau and Jeff have provided over the years. Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher should fry for making us see anyone but Cindy Williams in that Slave Leia costume.

What's with all the belly-aching? Sure, the kids get their foot in the door but they rise or fall on their own talent. Ask Chad McQueen.

Nepotism was one of the founding principles of Hollywood. This is nothing new.

As for the remake, or remakes in general, I think the '99 Annie is leaps and bounds above its original. Not to say that this will be better than that, but it helps sometimes to remember that the Maltese Falcon we all know was the third movie version.

The Smiths have got to stop pimpin' out those kids..

Edit - Just ran across an article about this on the LA Times site.
I guess "pimpin'" was an appropriate choice of words..
