Why do so many people think Star Trek: Into Darkness was bad?

I didn't read the 8 pages of posts so I'm simply responding to the OP's thread title.........IT WASN'T BAD!!!

In fact, compared to my other highly anticipated flick of the summer, Iron Man 3, it was an absolute masterpiece.

Because he's an old fart. If that's the case let go full bore with insult to injury and have Shatner play one.

Somehow being old means you can't act now. :rolleyes

Lloyd's still got it. To be honest I'd rather have a cameo of him than another David Marcus storyline.

Classic franchises should not be used as dollar-guarantees for dumb rides. Especially when those responsible have declared their total lack of interest in the values of the classic they've chosen to leech on. Too many ball-less suits in H-wood too chicken**** to make their own franchise. Thus, lovers of the original get angry.

I sooo agree with this - if only.

Too much risk to attempt something new.
Star Trek was pitched as "Wagon Train" to the Stars.
I've long wanted a "Bonanza" in the Solar System.
No warp drive, no aliens. Nearer future.
Lots of exciting places right circling ol Sol right here. Very few films or TV shows want to spend time in the solar system for some reason.
The fan funded "Space Command" is promising this for a while, but they will go towards light speed and aliens eventually.

How about Firefly? Awesome show. Huge fanbase. Like everything else good that Fox has had... They destroyed it.

They never had a chance to destroy it, they just cancelled it. It never failed to deliver great story, never had the chance to have Fox meddle with the content. And the fan base was very much like TOS, small but passionate. I think Firefly gained a hugefan base years after it's demise, myself included.

I would be totally alright with Christopher Lloyd in the next Trek. I think he has a lot more gravitas as an actor than Doc Brown would lead one to believe. I think he was definitely one of the better parts of TWOK.

Jason of Star Command was Bonanza in space - amd Wikki was Haws

How come the USS Vengeance features hull components that seals up it's deflector dish? Doesn't it seem a bit redundant that the Deflector dish needs a deflector when it can already be protected by deflector shields?

My understanding is the primary deflector dish is used during warp travel to prevent collisions with small debris and the such.
