Who works with rubber?

I'm thinking of having some things cast in rubber.

Anyone here really comfortable working with the stuff? I stopped working in resin years ago and never pulled anything in rubber.

I may just hire a few jobs out so drop me a PM if this is your gig.

Thanks!

You don't neessarily need to cast anything in "rubber".

Smooth-on makes a series of resins that vary in durometer (hardness) from like...20 to 80 IIRC...(really really soft to really really hard).

They can also be tinted in numerous colors. They act just like any other resin...mix part A with Part B and pour. Very easy.

I have used them on two recent projects for my "real" job.

There is even "super resin" that is as strong as a bowling ball, but still resiliant. We tested a casting by heaving it about 40 feet in the air across the parking lot. After it landed...not a scratch. Good stuff.

PTS in Exton, PA stocks these materials and ships all over the world.

If it is only a few items, I could probably do it for you...PM me.

(or I will be calling you tomorrow anyway...)

I've been working in nothing BUT Rubber for teh last six months. It's not hard at all . . .once you get the hang of it.

What are you building?

Aren't you really, really sweaty by now? :love :lol

Sorry, couldn't resist the silly gag :$

I've done a couple of simple latex castings into open-topped moulds - like the ANH Stormtrooper rubber handguards where the exposed side ends up being glued to the back of a glove, so can be plain.
What really surprised me is how tough cured latex can be when it's 1/2" thick.... seriously impressive for a naturally-occuring substance :thumbsup

Cheers,
John

Sounds like someone is considering a batsuit.
Don't forget to factor in an extra 2% for nipples!

Cool.

Thanks!

No, man. Not my thing.

Just considering some stunt versions of a few things I already offer. I just don't have much time to mess with doing my own pulls, that's all.

I'm an old resin monkey, but haven't worked in rubber except for mold making. Sounds like this won't be an issue.

Thanks
