I have to go with everyone (excluding Hayden). Everyone from the designers, sculptors, actors, etc. contributed to bringing the character to life. If you had any of them out of the equation it wouldn't have been the same character.
im gonna go out on a limb. i have lots of problems with the prequels but i was ok with hayden in the suit, just wish he had more to do at the end of the movie. wished they had done another one, kind of in the style of the first force unleashed game with hayden as vader and witwer as starkiller.
Lucas wrote him. McQuarrie drew him. Prowse wore him. Anderson danced him. Jones voiced him.
Vader is Vader.

Agree with your observations regarding Prowse. Vader would have been very different without Prowse. He has that slight kind of arrogance in his posture. For me it's Prowse.
I didn't know who David Prowse was for a long time, and then I found out he had a small part in 'A Clockwork Orange'. When I had a chance to see 'Clockwork' I was blown away seeing Prowse because all I could see in his body was Darth Vader. The shape of his arms, legs, how he stands- everything.
David Prowse is Darth Vader. Yeah, they could have used somebody else but they used him and everything about him transferred into the visual performance of the character. Going with someone other than Prowse would be like going with Kurt Russell for Han Solo. He would have been the character and we would not have known any different.
But they went with Ford, and Prowse, and the rest is history.
