I am looking to do a vader helmet on a budget and was going to get a SFP ESB helmet fiber glass kit on ebay for about $170 US or would the rubies around the same price be beter. I want to display only and will be reworking & repainting to get a good quality helmet.Which one do you think would be the best option?

SFP? Never heard of them. Are you referring to SPFX?

If so, that's a good price for a raw kit. :eek

Ok lets say it is a raw kit from somebody else. I was wondering which one would be easier to get to a good standard for display only.

If you want something decent you'd have to pay a bit more than $170 I'm afraid. If you are not into accuracy then a repainted Rubies Supreme could work just fine. It's extremely ugly to those who've studied Vader just the tiniest, but to the regular joe it's Vader - though... you should be able to find one for about $50... don't go higher as it's not worth your money.

Star Fortress... hmm... what can I say other than to save your money. It's a crappy DP CA recast and it's a crappy business.

Your best bet for a Vader helmet is to find and buy one on these boards.

For that kinda dough, you could get a Sgt. Fang helmet here....I'm pretty sure that Sarge is still selling them. Steer way clear of SFP....yikes.

The Rubies plastic ROTS helmet can actually be reworked into a convincing OT looking Vader....it's been done, but it does take some skills.

If you can afford a bit more, I'd personally hold out for a Don Post Classic Action helmet which can be modified and painted to look very good. Do a search....there's lots of pix.

I have seen the rubies redone and i think they are then a good helmet but a lot of work is needed. I think i can handle one as i am just finnishing a cylon helmet that needed a lot of work and also doing a base of skulls for a repainted 18" neca terminator that i am doing also. What i realy want to know is what is easier to do the rubies or a kit. the Star Fortress kit is on ebay here. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI...em=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT&salenotsupported. Is this a crappy DP CA recast as you mention as it looks ok to me but would like your opinion on it.

DO NOT buy from Starfortress. IT IS CRAP and you risk your money and risk more work than buying a Rubies and you'll be supporting a pedophile. Personally, I would buy a SgtFang over a Rubies any day - it is not accurate either, but less is needed to rework and it's easier to work with resin and fiberglass than injection molded plastic.

3phase- check with SgtFang- He makes a great "budget" kit. He is a member here. Use the search function and find out about him. Stay away from banned (again use search function to view banned list). Good Luck, Members here with help you as long as your not going down the dark path, or a sock.
