Which is the best dread diameter?

Hi, I am planning on building my dreads from backing rod as described on some methods here, but since backing rod is not available in my country, I will have to order it online without taking a look at the real thing.
Could you please recommend me the best width for them?
As a note, I am using the pepakura mask described in this forum (not re-scaled at all)

I'd suggest measuring the dread holes on your mask as there are many different dread hole sizes depending on sculptors and sources.

I won´t be using mask underneath, will just make an structure and use the Bio on top.

I'd say no larger then an inch (2.5cm if you're metric), that's about the max size my dreads are I believe.

I agree with youngblood I used backer rod for my dreads - 25cm (1inch)
