Where to buy stunt blades in 2014... (Updated with SOURCE!!)

Hey all,

I have been racking my brain (and the search function) for the past few weeks looking for where I can find some carbon fiber/texalium stunt blades. I have searched all over and found threads dating from 2004-07, but most of the places that are mentioned in those threads are offline now. I know that many people got them from Kilwell in NZ, but I searched their site as well and came up empty-handed. Sabershop is not accepting orders currently, either. Randomsabers is offline as well.

So, with those things in mind, where do you all suggest I can buy two sturdy carbon fiber/texalium dueling rods? Anyone know?

Thanks!

Steven

This is a big problem for sure. I've been talking with Ry from Randomsabers recently. He doesn't have any CF blades in stock sadly. He used to be the only one in the US (I'm told) that sold those specific ones, but was going to let Ryan from Sabershop take over that roll. Haven't yet had an opportunity to contact him yet, but sending an email to Sabershop would probably be your best bet, even though the site says not accepting orders at this time.

Hope this helps. If you just need them for a little bit, seeing that you're in UT, I might be able to let you borrow mine sometime.

Best of luck.

Ken Hampton sells carbon fiber blades. You can contact him through Facebook, or find his email address there too. HamptonsHandCraftedLightsabers.

For the record, texalium is not carbon fiber. It's fiber glass.

I remember seeing the pictures of the blades at RandomSabers, and they had a silver sheen to them, which means they're texalium (fiber glass weave), not carbon fiber.

That is true. My mistake. All the stunt lightsaber blades I've seen people using are texalium, but everyone advertises them as CF. Oh well.

Yeah, the RandomSabers guy (I guess his name is Ryan?) also advertised them as carbon fiber, even though they're not.

Good to know. I'll look him up.

I'm friends with Ryan Wieber on FB, and when I contacted him about the possibility of buying some blades, he said that he was out of stock, and pointed me to RandomSabers.

RandomSabers has been offline and out of business for a couple years, I believe.

Re: Where to buy stunt blades in 2014...

StevenBills - did you try to email Kilwell? Will they even make them anymore?

I know when I ordered the blades years (and years) ago, I had to go through email as they are not an 'advertised' item. I can't remember what the cost was or how many I had to buy.......

Maybe you guys might want to try and put a group order together

Right. That's one of the places I've looked into, but without luck. I actually used the wayback machine to go back to their website as it was about 9 years ago, and they were selling the blades for $40 each. I managed to find Ryan's contact email, so I shot him a message, but he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

@lgtsbr - I haven't emailed them yet. I'll give that a shot as well. Other people (in years past) have mentioned that they had an order minimum of 10 tubes, and they could do it for $20 per tube, so $200 total. I'd totally be willing to go in on something like that if others would be as well.

Re: Where to buy stunt blades in 2014...

that sounds about right for the blade cost, although it may have gone up since. Before you order though try to put the group buy together, this way you can maybe bring the cost down a bit.

What goes into making these? I could look into making some if they weren't going to be too much work.

It sounds fairly complex based on how Kilwell does it: Kilwell Fibretube :: Process

EDIT: I just shot Kilwell an email asking them if they still make tubing that is similar to the stuff they made for Star Wars. I'll post back when/if I get a reply.

Interesting. Does sound like an involved process.

Re: Where to buy stunt blades in 2014...

Hi there,

I've always wanted a stunt blade that was made out of one piece of material ... from top to bottom ... with a pointy tip as seen in Revenge of the Sith ... so no additional tip ... if anyone can pull that off ... you'll have one customer for certain ;)

Re: Where to buy stunt blades in 2014...

If we're talking about carbon fiber, and not texalium, then I am potentially very interested in a group buy. Before that, though, I need to know what diameter and length we're talking about. I may be in for 2 or 4 blades. (2 for dueling, 2 as replacements, because you never know what kind of stupid **** I might do to mine).

Re: Where to buy stunt blades in 2014...

red4 - Good to know. I'll let you know when/if Kilwell gets back to me. A pretty common length that I have seen is 40", with a 1/2" OD.

Randomsabers website closed only a year or so ago. And Ryan is hard to get a hold of unless you have his private email, so you may have to send a few before he actually sees it. At least that's been my experience.

If someone does get a group buy together for these, I'd be very interested for sure.

Re: Where to buy stunt blades in 2014...

I'm going back a few years, so I might be a bit off, but I seem to remember the rods were 36" long and 5/8" diameter. I have a few at home still so I can double check those once I get back home tomorrow

Re: Where to buy stunt blades in 2014...

I have two that I bought from Random Sabers a few years back (and no, they are NOT for sale). They are 39.5" long (counting the small embedded aluminum tip) and are 1/2" plus 1/32" in outside diameter.
