ESB and ROTJ stunt light saber blade source

so what is the length and O.D. (thickest/ thinnest part) of that golf shaft?

Markus

its all metal took the yellow covering off the box it came in says its a carbon steel shaft compared it to my cf blade i have its lighter ive used these before in a fan film years ago i bought a bunch of golf clubs at a yard sale and i bought all of them BC i saw three graphite ones and was hoping they all were. when i went to use the metal ones i was real impressed no bending at all and never broke one!............the bottom of the rod is 5/8 i think ill double check in the am and end is 3/8 thats for sure

ill re-post tomorrow

I don't know if this helps at all, but Steve Sansweet's screen used Vader saber has a German surplus tank antenna as the blade. It looks very similar to the full length blade pics shown in this thread, same taper too.

I've seen pics of that saber and I'd love to know what screen it is supposedly used from. Perhaps a tv commerical, but not any of the OT movies.

I was looking at images of German tank antennae's, it's hard to see how long they are because most of the images are model kit parts but they do look exactly like the stunt saber blades.

I know what you mean, but Steve was adamant and described it as a REAL Jedi Lightsaber......but the blade looks VERY similar to the BTS pics of saber blades....

So were supposed to believe luke and Vaders blades were used tank antennas ?

I remember hearing that as far back as the late 1980s, well before the RPF.

It's probably true, but it's never been 100% confirmed. With all the military surplus they used, it's very likely.

I just ordered a few antennaes and will let you know if these work for our needs

Markus

I called a few surplus stores and one had a lot of various lengths and models...curious if these proove to be suitable for our needs.

should take up to two weeks before I can post some pics due to time restraints :(

oh..the material seems to be coated copper

Just stumbled across this doing research...interesting thread! Did the guys ever figure out how the antennas worked out? I thought the ESB and ROTJ were graphite/carbon

I'd like to add some info today

I screen-capped some of that video with Steve, and it appears the Vader saber he owns (owned)? is one of the stunt or promo sabers made for Vader. There MIGHT be an MPP clamp with the lever facing forwards, a silver D ring block on the emitter, as well as the larger pommel and the black pommel circle...just like the Barbican, but this is more chrome and not matte finish.

The emitter and the tube are the same part I believe, there's a screw holding the emitter shoulder on the front of the saber, as well as a rectangular greeblie. The Tank Antenna has a step where it enters the saber. There's six pieces of T track with screws at the corners too I think.

So, this probably wasn't used in ESB, but the blade source is still extremely intriguing.

Those are really cool photos ! Wonder if it ever saw screen time. I found a newer tour video from a friend who is trying to get me to Rancho Obi Wan. Mr Sansweet says in the video that the blade was made of a carbon fiber antennae.
Here is the video. Its at minute mark 12:30 https://youtu.be/WL4IlNGrp90

Also sounds like somethings loose in the blade

Some new higher quallity photos from YouTube video. To me, as he says, it really does sound like carbon fiber, or some kind of composite material. If not maybe fiberglass.

Yea that's exactly what I saw! But as was stated earlier looks like the top emitter above the collar is the same size/part of the main body. Looks like a standard MPP clamp to me(I could b wrong though). I posted a antenna question on a ww2 vehicle forum . An historian there told me that they had fiberglass antenna tubes with copper inner shaft on a couple model tanks. Maybe that is what Sansweet has .

This looks like a -slightly smaller?- version of the Barbican DV saber?!
