What's On My Workbench?

Todd - can't Dremel inside - the resin flakes and dust would be everywhere! And Daman, that flex shaft looks cool! Something to think about if I get a corded one...

Time to go back out there and finish off the P1 head...

Performed a craniotomy on a Pred today :D

The cast was buggered, but my heat gun should let me push the resin back into position and then use Apoxie to fill the gap.

I started creating a laser shroud for my second P1 Stunt today. I want to make this one screen accurate. The screen used pics show the shroud more rounded than the HCG Bio. These are the two best reference pics I could find:

Thanks to Brad for the PVC pipe suggestion, which I thot just might be crazy enough to work! I cut the pipe and then used my heat gun to shape it:

Then I glued it to the Bio:

The general shape is there, now I just have to get some Apoxie on it to fill in the gaps and get the right shape

I also used the heat gun on the P1 head which is also ready for Apoxie to fill the gap:

you have molds for the P1 bio ???..
or did i already ask you that ?????

these are bad-ass by the way

Glad to see the PVC pipe idea worked. That's gonna look dope, once you get the putty in there. Excited for the next update. Oh, now I'm motivated to go work on mine!

Tatsu - no idea yet...probably sponges tho...

Brad, I plan on getting the Apoxie done tonight. Hows your shroud coming along?

Wow ..great idea with the PVC pipe ..just started casting a few more ..might have to try it if I finally save my self one

You got it Okami - both the P1 and P2 bios had small holes under the chin. No idea what they were there for tho...

Always thought that the P2 bio is the only bio with holes down the chin,
but that pic of the P1 bio shows me I'm wrong.

Damn it, now I'm gonna have to go back and add a piece to the bottom of the chin, lol! Thanks for the pics, though!

Thanks, George. Every now and then I have a good idea, lol...

As far as the details with the shroud, what's your take on the accuracy of the Cinemaquette Predator 1 Maquette? That is, it is my understanding that Steve Wang oversaw its creation, so would you consider it to be "film accurate". Judging from the actual movie photos, it would appear so to me, however I could be missing something and wanted to throw it out there for your input.

Steve actually sculpted that maquette. While its a great depiction of the OG predator ..I think Steve took a few liberties and actually improved on the suits design...for example ..he actually sculpted the divits and blast marks on the Bio ..where it was mostly just paint on the movie version.
As for the holes..most likely for air circulation and to prevent fogging on the visor ..things like this are often done when it wont be seen in the actual footage

Thanks, George.

As far as the holes and shape of the bio under the chin are concerned, apparently, it can go either way. I'm not worrying about them.

I also see that the lasers do protrude quite a bit...

EDIT:
I also went ahead and put together a quick comparison shot of screen shots and Wang maquette. Three things I noticed are:
1. The shroud tapers back much more abruptly within the last 1/2" on the original versus the redo, which is more gradual.
2. The etched detail shown on the marquette does not appear to exist on the screen shots or the shot from underneath that Okami posted above.
3. The angle of the lasers. From what I can tell, the lasers on the original are angled towards the centerline of the bio. That is, there is a point, some 10-20' in front of the bio, that is on the centerline of the bio, that the lasers intersect. In Wang's redo, it would appear that the laser line is actually running to the outside of the bio. Hopefully I'm not seeing things and that makes sense...

Air circulation? Hmmm...could very well work for that purpose.

Brad, not sure if you've seen this pic that shows the laser attached to the half-mask, but it explains why the laser is different lengths based on how far the Bio got pushed onto the half-mask

I sculpted on top of the PVC pipe and then smoothed it to the point where I don't think I'll need to sand it at all. Damn I love Apoxie! I think I'm going to have to sculpt something one of these days...this sculpting thing is addicting.

Jason ..that looks great! Im loving the mods you guys are doing to these bios ..keep those pics coming
