What not to do as an author

So, I saw this tweeted by Neil Gaiman of all people... The comments made by the author on a review of her book are tantamount to career suicide. If she continues writing, she'll need to do so under a pen name unless she wants this utterly ridiculous behavior to dog her for the rest of her life.

BigAl's Books and Pals: The Greek Seaman / Jacqueline Howett

On the upside, I found a new review site to request a look at my novels from!

HAhahahahahahaha wow. that woman just shot herself in the face. Amazing.

Also, gotta love Neil Gaiman for calling it like he sees it.

Yeah, it's hard to not laugh at that woman... talk about shooting yourself in the foot. She certainly seems to have some entitlement issues.

I Love the link she posted of her reading an excerpt from it out loud. She should totally record herself and make it an audio book, so People on their way to work, and blind people can hate her hackneyed crap too.

Ah, the internet.

It never ceases to amaze me how people fail to predict the consequences of their actions on the internet. I mean, honestly, what did this woman expect would happen if she berated the reviewer, posted other positive reviews, and the like? I really think some of this comes from the ease with which a person can simply fire off a missive and the fact that it's being done (usually) in the privacy of one's own home (or workspace). You take those two factors together, and they make it really easy to make a COMPLETE ASS of yourself in next to no time.

Especially when you're talking about your business, you have GOT to be careful how you represent yourself. But I guess this woman didn't get that memo...

I especially enjoyed the typos and mistakes in her responses where she insisted that her "writing was fine".

And, honestly, in this day and age, there's no excuse for it. Even Firefox tells me when I've misspelled something, you're damn right my word processor does. And this is also why writers have editors.

I'll have to show that to a friend of mine that's currently writing her first book.

Man oh man, I was killing myself laughing. Everyone is trying to be as polite as possible about her grammer and responses and she's throwing it back in their faces acting like she's 6.

She's lucky enough to get a book published and turns into a spoiled brat about it. I bet anyone finds out her pen names are her she'll get sacked.

Format/Typo Issues:

Numerous proofing, typo, and grammar issues

What is this, vanity press? An real publisher would fix all that.

But she's not that unique. Even here, mention you don't like a movie and someone will tell you you're WRONG, and the movie's GREAT, and you're a STOOPIDHEAD!
