What is the best Gold "Chrome" in a rattle can?

I went in to the art supply store near me and looked at their actual painted samples and I can say with absolute certainty that the killer chrome is as good as it looks on the web. I would have picked some up, but in order to get the gold chrome you have to buy the mirrachrome kit for roughly $130 and then the candy gold top coat for another $35 which they don't carry at my local store.

I've made no progress on mine ... still has the "old gold" on it.

What's a good way to remove without damaging the resin underneath? Someone said to try EasyOff oven cleaner.

May I bump this for more developments? Looking for the best MIRROR gold in a can. Anything new?

In the states, I have seen:

Rust-Oleum 1910830 Metallic Spray, Gold

Krylon 1000 Premium Metallic Spray Paint, Gold

Krylon 1701 Metallic Spray Paint, Bright Gold

Rust-Oleum 7710830 Bright Coat Metallic Color Spray, Gold

Krylon Metallic Spray Paint

Duplicolor - Dupli-Color Instant Gold Spray Lacquer

Any pics would be appreciated!

Wow... I'm highly impressed with the results achieved with some of these! :love

I had thought the RPF had decided that "gold chrome" spray paints were worthless, but some of these look really good! :cool:thumbsup

Definitely good to know that these options exist. Too bad Plasticote is such a pain to find Stateside. :unsure

heres a couple of rattle can golds from the u.k. the plasticote stuff.

as been mentioned before they take ages to cure and pick up fingermarks etc very easily.

it is also impossible to get a flawless covering, trust me i've tried!

one thin coat followed by a thick coat several seconds later gave the best results.

I just got some SpazStix Mirror Chrome in gold for my Indy idol, but have not tried it out yet. Their chrome is supposed to be on par if not better than Killer Chrome.

I am using the Rustoleum Specialty Metallics Gold, which Rustoleum describes as a "plating" paint on the can. Using it to paint my Indy idol.

Pics to follow later today, when it dries.

So far, fairly happy with the results - though one more coat to go!

OSK

Here is my completed Indy Idol display.

I really like the Rustoleum Specialty Metallics Gold (available at AC Moore and Home Depot). Wish I could have afforded to have it vac metallized - but dont have $250 to do it right now.

Obi Sean, thanks for sharing your results. I, too, am very impressed with the quality of the finishes that can be achieved with Rust-Oleum's paints for fairly low cost! This will help me out immensely on an upcoming project.

Beautiful idols, guys! All of you did excellent work on them! :cool:thumbsup

And zorg, that 3PO helmet is GORGEOUS! I would have thought it was weathered/aged/dirtied up METAL, just from the pics! Great job! :)

here's Alsa corps mirrachrome with gold candy applied to my car =)
