What is the best Gold "Chrome" in a rattle can?

The Montana cans aren't chrome enough I think. I used it for the same thing and it still just looks like every other "chrome" spray paint I've ever seen. The regular chrome is even worse.

Thanx for the info!!
Any pix of the Krylon premium metallic on what you shot?

Sorry no pics , but the dredd eagle on my avatar was done in rustoleum, it was a bit rushed as i was getting it ready for an event and i think i could have got it a lot shinier with more time. Good stuff and dries quick but i would definately go for the krylon if you can get it as when i did have a can is was shinier.

Guys...thanx for posting! good input so far!
Anyone have pix of what they've shot with a good gold rattle can?
-thanx

I've got a resin Indy idol that I want to do too so I'm keeping up with this thread with great interest.

I looked at: http://www.alsacorp.com/killercans.htm but I'm not seeing a gold. Lots of interesting colors and a great looking chrome, but no gold.

I've had great success on a project with Alclad 2 in an airbrush, but that was chrome and not gold. They have a "pale gold"... don't know what that means.

Here is the idol I painted with the Rust Oleum Advanced Metallic Pure Gold:

It looks way better. Not sure what success the other poster had with it, but coming from a spray can it has an incredible chrome look, if you spray it right. Looks even better in person. If you spray too far away from the object you're not gonna get much of a reflective surface. And spraying too much and too close will cause it to run. Also, as I mentioned before, fingerprints were a problem. Because the idol is rubber I think it was more susceptible to fingerprints. I suspect the paint will work even better on metallic surfaces. In any event, let it dry for a really long time before handling it. If you do get some fingerprints, I found that rubbing it with a little bit of wax paper makes minor ones disappear. Finally, don't apply a finishing clear coat. I didn't know better and when I did, the shine was gone. Had to do it all over again. Grrrr

Preperation is the key with any gold / chrome paint as well , the smoother the finish the better the shine you will get ,as is with real chrome which is only as good as the poloshing of the metal you do beforehand. Any imperfection will be multiplied tenfold . Gloss black before the gold is the best way to go as well as it gives a deeper shine and you dont need a lot of the topcoat either then. As chwie said dont use any laquer as it always dulls the finish. I ave not tried the Montana but have seen it on e bay here so will give it a try too.

here's one of the shoulder and eagle done with rustoleum and Krylon premium brass , as said it was a bit rushed and i reckon i could have got a better finish if i had gloss blacked and poished the black too before painting the gold.

I had similar results with my Montana can. It took 2 weeks to dry and still after 3 months I try not to touch it because it still gets prints (not in the paint, just on the surface). It has a slightly mirrored finish, but not the kind you could actually see yourself in, it's very blurry. The silver chrome was less effective for me.

I just talk to a Tech at Alsacorp. All you do for the killer chrome in a can is, do the chrome, use a coat or two of mirra-Clear then use the true gold candy, coat again with Mirra Clear for the most durable finish, no finger prints, very effective...Don't think you can match this...period, not with a can anyway, but as already stated, it is expensive. I've used this product with great sucsess and a little goes quite far, being it's a metal deposition, it's just dust coated to achieve the optimum effect.

Will.....This seems to be the winner! just went on their site... for $115.00 it seems like I may be able to do the entire thing!
Do you have any samples of the items you've used this on..even if it's chrome.
walk us through the process?

Thanks for posting this firefox , i was looking at their site yesterday and considered asking them about gold paints so you saved me a job , this stuff is available in europe as well so i will try this out , the finish is definately the best i have seen . You can also buy the cans seperately that are used in the process if you run out of one in particular.

Certainly,
here's a test on a blister pack for dust masks, the key to this product is to just dust the object, not paint it. I also used it on my glaive's overall edge trim and the blades

You just sold me, I'm going to have to shell out the cash for some killer chrome now. Luckily the local art store carries it, so I might get to save on shipping...... On the other hand, they over charge for everything.

This honestly seems to be the best, I'm picking some up also this week, see what happens!
Anyone else use this before? results? comments?
