What are you all using to light the FM Falcon

I ask because I need to find a kit or plans on what I need to buy to light up mine once I get to that stage. I've seen the Voodoo kits online but wondered if there were any others or any kind of plans on wiring up something yourself. Any help is appreciated. :)

Thanks, QuartZ. By the way, the kit is looking amazing on the blog. I've been popping in there and checking out the progress. I can't wait to see the finished kit.

I know one guy was casting the engine units in clear resin, and im sure he was going for LED's for each unit, he was over at the SSM boards, maybe not relevant to the thread but just wondered how your gonna pull it off Quartz, btw, your build is way cool, love what your doing. Totally makes me wanna rip mine apart lol........lee

I saw a thread on here where clear resin was used for the engine bay details. I'd like to get a set of those if at all possible.

I think the user was falcondesigns over on SSM betamin, if not ill try look into it, i did look at getting a set but then went against lighting my bird, maybe also try the SSM store, they may sell them there.

Yep, Falcon designs. He's a member here too.

Here are his clear thrusters in action:

Thanks ralphee and Toddski. Yup, those are the clear ones I'd like to get. And Toddski, your Falcon is friggin' amazing. I sat there looking at the pics on it after you first posted and was blown away by how great it looked. Do you have a layout of how you did your lighting that you'd want to share? I won't do the 3PO eyes, but am trying to find something to do the cockpit backlighting, the engines, front headlights and maybe the gun pits and walkway, if I have it open but it'll probably just be closed.

I'm trying to decide if I want to buy something that is set up or try to find out every part I'd need to solder everything together myself. I've done basic soldering before, but never with LEDs and all the assorted things needed to do something like this kit.

I'm here, and I have the thrusters, also coming out with the clear cockpit set as well.Just e mail me for info.Put clear parts in the subject line,so I will read it.Thanks,Alexander,falcondesigns@aol.com

I got the voodooFX light kit and a lightsheet experimenters kit. This is easiest for me since I have no understanding of electronics. The only problem I'm having is the Lightsheet needs 3 AA and the voodooFX needs a 9v battery. I wish I could get the whole thing to run off the one 9 volt.

I had thought about getting the Voodoo FX kit, but I too don't know much about wiring up LEDs and such without frying something. I'd wondered if their version that needs to be soldered has complete directions on how to set it all up. It's less expensive than the "plug and play" set, but I'd hate to screw it up if I got it and tried to wire it up wrong with no directions.

I wired all the LED's in parallel in one circuit and the EL strip ran off of another supply. This site was very useful for calculating the resistors needed for the LED's.

http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/mods/How%20t...%20an%20LED.htm

Thay have a LED calculator wherre you enter the voltage drop, amperage and supply voltage and it tells you what safe ranges for the resistors are. The fiber optics in mine used some of the same LED's I used foer the cockpit back light and headlights.

I got everything, LED's and EL strip from http://www.jab-tech.com and the resistors from radioshack

Good luck...
