WETA: District 9 Guns

Woohoo, got mine today. And nah, there's no certificate or marking on the gun itself - it's written on the outside shipping box and on the inside box you get "Edition No: XX/200", and that's all.

Mine's #7. Sweet, never had a low-number anything before! Even though it's meaningless it's still somehow sort of nice. My 3-yo likes it...but I think he likes the big box even more, heh.

That is not a paint scheme that I would have some up with but it's wicked none the less. I plan on keeping mine "as is" but I think it's awesome that guys that have a sack are willing to either improve on the design or make it their own. It's sort of what this forum is all about right? Keep the "in progress" pics coming!

Just wondering whether you're referring to thx's repaint here? That is a legit colour scheme from the movie, and only varies a little from the as-shipped scheme, so I expect it will be a scheme many people go for. Or did you mean Griefboy's joke pic? His scheme is also legit but it is actually black and orange, he was just kidding around with the Photoshopped pink. His gun is a Weta original and came in the black and orange colours. Some guns were painted that way for the production, too.

Edit, never mind. (Was re the other controversy, better to let it lie.)

Me too. I'm tempted to just go ahead and do it anyway.

But although it may have been intended as an Ex-Suit gun paint scheme, that doesn't mean they didn't use it. There were more black/orange Weta Arc Gens than Griefboy's one only...

The Exo-Suit uses the standard version of the Assault Rifle too, yet there's also a heavier version built as a prop in 1:1, which has an extended "magazine" canister...and Exo-Suit-arc-gen-style colour scheme. My guess is it was intended as a Suit design also, but the communications with the animators broke down, or there wasn't time, or something.

Definitely thinking about doing a replica of the right arm. A heavy weathered look should goes great on the foam castings or light weight resin. How cool is it if you can wear both guns on your right hand? :love

A shot I took at the Con.

I saw a black/Orange version of the Arc Generator on the left wall when Wikus finds the gun cache. It's missing a few parts off the tip though.

This photo rkpetersen posted is very cool!

That extended magazine version is shown in this post. That would be a super bad ass mod of the Assault Rifle!!!

Yeah, that's the scene I'm thinking of. There are pics of Neill with more of them visible behind him, too. Definitely more than one built and used on set.

Really, REALLY looking forward to doing the AR mod. I love the standard version too, so although my order for two was a result of a browser glitch, going with it was a no-brainer. I'd toyed with the idea already and that just sealed it! The mod should be easy enough to do that it shouldn't take me the rest of the century, too - got way too much unfinished stuff.

That orange version of the GP is calling to me, also. Have you spotted it anywhere in the film? I haven't.

Thanks RKPetersen for this good pic of the other side of the 'AMR-B05b' or 'Alien Assault Rifle variant' or whatever its proper name is...

Neat. Is that theirs, though, or Wondersquid's?

Edit: it's Wondersquid's replica, not a Weta piece.

One more quick note - the AGs carried by the Prawns who sell the Exo-Suit actually carry a third colour scheme.

It's basically the black/orange scheme but with a white stripe at each end too.

Thanks, thx! I wanted to do that but can't get VLC to run the flick properly. Dunno what I am doing wrong, it starts then just glitches out.

Anyway, I wonder if that version of the gun was itself digital only? It's still canonical, but it would be nice if there's a prop or two in that colour scheme!

Sweet! I never saw that! Thanks for the pics!! That grees AG was Wondersquid at SDCC. I saw him at the Weta booth.

Tell you what I'm battling with the most concerning whether or not to do some minor mods to mine... While I LOVE the way it looks pulling it straight of the box, (a great job on pant and weathering), is it having the bottom part of the front of the gun be the gunmetal gray versus the white with the black and orange stripes continuing down like the one Wikus carries in the movie.

Right now I'm leaning more towards doing the mods especially after seeing how thx217's turned out... Man, that one looks AWESOME!! If and when I do, I'll have to post some WIP shots. :love

-B89! :D
