Wet & Wild Custom Blaster Contest

Finished building mine, so I'm thinking about pictures and I have another question (sorry).

Two (2) pictures of your finished blaster. There must be nothing else in the picture, no fancy photo manip, no graphic additions.

Does "nothing else" include hands/arms? Are we allowed to hold it (no faces) or does it have to be laying on a table (since a simple stand would be something)?

Nothing else in the picture means just that, nothing else in the picture.

Believe it or not there are some ladies on the RPF and some of them participate in these contests. If you were to be holding your blaster in the picture I'm pretty sure I could tell if it were a male or a female hand and may not be able to guess whose hand it is, but could do some process of elimination and rule out some..........entries are to be totally anonymous.

Nothing else in the picture so we are looking only at the modified blaster. This is not a pretty picture contest, not a graphic arts contest, not an accessories contest, this is a modified blaster contest and that's all that is to be in the picture, not even a simple stand. Cause you know, everyone of us here is in the business of IDENTIFYING things!!! What if I recognized your stand from some other picture you posted!??

So, as plain and neutral as you can make it folks. If you want it to be more than "just laying on a table" you can use things to prop it up and hold it up as long as they don't show in the picture--like a non-descript 'blob' underneath a cloth covering...........

If time permits, and if everyone doesn't wait until the eleventh hour to send in their entry, I plan to present the entries in the following template with links to them in the full size they were sent to me, if this will help you any in how you photograph your entry.

Yep, that's how I tried to guess what entries Shylaah made in past contests. :lol

"Those are some nice hands. Gotta be hers."

:lol :D

Just a thought but most blasters are, shall we say, best shown in a horizontal frame.

446x446 would theoretically leave a lot of wasted space in the pic. I'd skip the fancy presentation and simply limit the size of the photo to (for example) a maximum of 500x700. Whatever framing the entrant wants to use within that is fine but no photos will be bigger than 500 pixels tall or 700 pixels wide.

Just my 2 cents

What can I say....I like uniformity. order, consistency...... :)

Some people don't even know how to re-size an image, so I'll take whatever size is sent.

The width will be set at the maximum 446 pixel and the height adjusted so as not to leave dead space.

I don't know what calendar I was looking at :confused, but there is no Monday, October 3 in 2010..... :confused
The 3rd is on Sunday, so I have amended the rules post to the contest will end 9AM, Monday, October 4, 2010.
Only TWO weeks to go!!!!!!!!!!!

Since the modded props no longer have to function and the rules are pretty strict, this seems more like a Dry and Restricted contest rather than wet and wild. :lol

I have a few older water-guns which I no longer have receipts for and parts which can currently be bought but I have on hand that had thought to use, but apparently can not. -And items which are no longer sold were sold once at retail that should be allowed since they are not custom.

Another contest that looked like fun until all the silly rules were added.

In that spirit-

Additional silly rule suggestions:

-Limiting the actual working time to no more than 8 hours.

-Since not everyone has access to the same palette of paint, all entries must be in primer gray.

-All base guns should be available in all entrant countries at retail and not online.

-All receipts must be notarized within and not before 24 hours of the entry.

-Maximum amount spent on a modification by any member cannot exceed the least amount spent by any member. Entries exceeding minimum amounts will be disqualified.

-Since these are water-gun based props, no metal can be used or added to the plastic bodies.

-All entries must be water-tight and hold water. If they are empty, they should float. All entries must also have accompanying pictures showing that they float.

:lol :lol :lol

Count me in.

At some point we will need to do a totally "found" contest. No $$. You can't use anything you already own, you can't buy any of the pieces, you have to scrounge everything. I need to think up a rule set for that one. :)

Good idea!

The opposite would be good too. You have to scounge from your own piles of things and not buy anything. Nothing new would be allowed in the design. Say, nothing newer than 10 years old would be allowed as a base or part.

Another idea is to have a non toy/non tool based prop contest. No toys, actual weapons, parts or anything that is designed as a gun-shaped tool would be allowed i.e. no electric drills, pneumatic guns, sprayguns, timing lights, weedcutters, glue guns, etc.

Here is one more contest idea:

This is a really tough one. No metal, plastic or wood! You can use anything, but no metal, plastic or wood. This means no resins, no screws bolts, etc. It also means no carved wood objects or any twigs, stems, roots or other wood products.:eek Silicones are partially metal-based btw.

Try that!

The base gun doesn't count towards the $25 limit, you can use whatever you have laying around. Make sure of the rules before you bash them. :rolleyes

Oooo, I like that one! Too late to add it now, but I wish I'd thought of it in the beginning. Every entry primer gray, no glaring colors distracting the voters from the quality of the designs! Maybe next contest :lol

He was joking, if a bit sarcastically. It's Shylaah's contest and she can set the rules as she sees fit. Still, you have to admit these are the strictest rules of any contest we have ever had here. I hope it doesn't become a trend only because I personally think it restricts individuality and creativity. IMHO. I am, however, looking forward to seeing the entries and wish everyone Good Luck.

I'd like to say thanks to Shylaah for this contest.

It's a great bit of fun for the community and the rules, to my mind, haven't been massively prohibitive. The need for receipts is totally understandable, as we all have parts lying around, but very few of us would have the means of proving they would come in under the $25 (£16) budget. Personally I loved hitting the stores armed with my mere £16 and a vague idea of my final design.

It can't be particularly easy running a contest like this so thanks Shylaah and also everyone who's donated a prize. I have very much enjoyed it.

I can't believe this contest has been running since August and I'm just now finding out about it and I'm on this site hourly 24/7. I'm excited with this contest and plan to enter. I love these kinds of things.

I might have to drop out of his one I'm building a jango, a scout for my wife and sewing new robes for my tusken and have to get my rifle built before Saturday so I have no time to work on this

I'd love to enter this but I have way to many other projects to finish first. But if I have some time I might. Good luck everyone.

I always get to thinkin' it's gonna be a leisurely stroll through fall before the holiday crunch hits! But, man, either I'm wrong (that's very likely :lol) or things are moving a little faster this year! Good to see some new folks come aboard, and hope not too many of those already 'in' have to drop out because of time constraints. Good news is you still have two full weekends to work on your entry :thumbsup

I picked up a water gun today and I am going to try and have it done for this contest. I've never done anything like this, but it looks like fun. I am pretty busy the next few weeks, so I hope I can hit the deadline.
