Announcement Welcome to the RPF's Forum Upgrade Support Thread

Post sort order is a universal setting, not something that can be set per member. :(

I have to say that makes no sense to have to click on the last page button and scroll down to view the newest post on a thread. If you are following a thread it becomes very annoying quickly to have to keep doing this.

It wasn't like that before. If I remember correctly if your logged in you had the choice to sort but if you were not logged in it would default to the 1st post of the thread.

Sorry for the rant but I cant believe anybody would be happy with this.

Congrats to Art and the RPF team for a successful transition! I look forward to exploring the forum's new features.

Some initial feedback:

  • I would echo the ad comment. I'm on iOS and it's difficult to read with various ads everywhere...

Sean

In reviewing the ads on mobile, I have turned off the inline ad (when in mobile mode) that appears INSIDE a post. You are right. That makes reading a post difficult. However, all other ads, including the one AFTER the first post are remaining intact. Those can all easily be removed with a Premium Membership. ;)

I dont recall ever seeing an add that breaks up my sentence/post?

Actually INSIDE my text

"Hi, this is my new project, I am looking for......
-----------------------------------------------------
| |
| AD HERE |
| |
-----------------------------------------------------
.....for some feedback on the following....etc"

So I'm clear.. this just the new direction of advertising then? Injecting into the middle of our posts/content here?

update:

So you left:
"inline ad that appears INSIDE a post 'ON'".......for desktop/normal view?

I'm not concerned much about the ad AFTER the initial post... but INSIDE our posts? breaking up our sentences/content?

Is this correct? OR this has been turned off globally for all users? (re: inline injection)

Not quite the same thing but by clicking this button you can go to the first unread message.

Oh, interesting. I was browsing on my iPad last night but was not logged in. Now that I've logged in I see that the ads are indeed gone. Chalk up another Premium Member benefit! :)

Quickly getting used to all the changes and additions - very nice overall. Again, thanks for all the hard work!

Dan

Also is there a mis match between number of posts and status? I have over 200 posts but it says Jr Member?

It is not a mismatch. Post count is only a part of the equation. Members are awarded "trophies" for certain actions. You can see the trophy list here:

Trophies | RPF Costume and Prop Maker Community

Your trophy count is what determines your User Title. You have 70 Trophy points which is what makes you a Jr Member.

Correct on all counts.

The ads are always on for me (for testing purposes and such) and there are times where I long to have the Premium Member benefits. ;)

Good to have an update here and it's fantastic that images can be directly pasted now. Thanks for that!

As mostly a desktop user on a fairly wide monitor, the wide/responsiveness of the site is taking a little getting used to and might be causing some eyestrain. Funny, I remember the old site and it not being responsive being a bit of an issue.

I miss the menu bar at the top with the links to the various sub forums, it made navigating the forum incredibly easy and fluid. The lack of it makes the site seem smaller than it really is.

As a desktop user I have to echo the eyestrain concerns (for reference my browser window is in more of a 4:3 aspect, not even spanning the whole monitor).

If we are going with a format with so much more whitespace, I think the fonts should be a little thicker/blacker than current. I did not use the dark theme on the old board, but because of the fixed width, text was more concentrated within my browser window. Now a thread page is a wall of white with text spanning nearly the full width of the window - sort of a snowblind feeling. It might be beneficial to reduce the width of the main text block in a similar way that the quoted text window is.

Font choice/text size is primarily an issue with the timestamp, post number, etc block at the end of posts - currently this is a small, thin, light grey font on white - not very readable at all. Grey on grey in other parts of the site is not optimal either.

The format of the timestamp is not immediately readable, either, with how it floats off by itself and in an inconsistent justification dependent on the length of the user name. I don't know how customizable this is for you, but I miss both the date and user name being inline with each other in a consistent place at the very top of each post, clearly signifying the start of a separate entry (along with the distinct black space between posts).

Sorry man but not digging the new site. Not only is it drab and boring, but it seems as though most of the functionality of the old site is gone as well. I know everyone is trying to go o the mobile side of things, but Im pretty sure most of us use a desktop to navigate this site. Not only that, but I feel less of a member of the community without having my post count, location etc. Is there a way to turn those on so people can see without having to click my profile?

Would it be possible to have the "Watched Threads" link immediately go to the "All Watched Threads" page as it used to? (https://www.therpf.com/forums/watched/threads/all)

As it is now it shows "Unread Watched Threads" meaning that threads begin to vanish as they are read. I can't be the only one who used the "Subscriptions" link as a shortcut to all of the threads I was participating in or might need to reference.

I’ve no post likes :(
I liked to be liked:(
No post count either I also was building up to a big un :(
Going to take some time to get to grips with it,
I’m going to take a little time out and go through my threads and like all the past posts from other members, to help build up there likes !!!!! Maybe later
Love the new emojis
:notworthy::notworthy::love:(y)(n):sick::sleep::lol::ninja::oops::whistle::confused::love::devil::cry:;)

That is correct. All external attachments are automatically ported over for exactly the reason you mentioned. So there are two steps to attachments. The first is uploading them. The second is inserting them into the post. If you don't insert them, they jam up at the end of the post.

Ok thanks Art Andrews , great move on hosting images directly. Took me a while to work it out, deleting unwanted attachments, but got there eventually.

So how do i get my premium banner back?

Likes will be back.

Hey,
great job for the very complex move (y)

- I also have no likes,
- I'm a junior member despite my quite high number of posts but I assume like you said, Art, that this has to do with my lack of trophies.
- in my premium membership in my account, I see the date is correct for next year but I see "Premium Membership (Monthly)" which seems to be a small glitch.
I think that's it for now ;)

You are ONE trophy point away from the next level!!!

Yeah... that is an outstanding issue with the Premium Memberships... one we are going to have to deal with. :(

thanks Art.
One thing I just noticed, we don't see the country of someone on the left of each post, this is something that I thought was very important when buying or selling to someone. You don't even see it in the junkyard infos, you have to click on the name of the person.
