I'm working on a Wyatt Earp costume for DragonCon- I don't want the hat to look brand new- while it's a toss up as to use the Kurt Russell or Kevin Costner style of hat- (Kurt's a Boss of the Plains style, flatish top-while Kevin's has a crease in the top) I'm trying to have it look worn, used, not brand spanking new.
This company offers superb hats, way outa my budget though, and offers also a "dusting" service- scroll down towards the middle of the page- I've tried googling all types of "dusting" "weathering" cowboy hats and nothing comes up-
Western Dress Hats - The Last Best West
I'm hoping to use this technique on a Indy fedora as well.
I thought about colored artist's chalks, grinding them to a powder, then sealing them once applied, but I don't know if that would just make them look dirty, and not the sweat stained look.
And yeah, thought about just wearing it to get that look...but want a couple years of "use" on the hat.
Any help much appreciated!
